I hate it when sports people who do that. Thanking God for something which was down to the hard work of everyone else and themselves.

I also don't get it why at a penalty shootout between two South American countries everybody on the bench starts to pray. As if football is a contest on who is the most religious... All your achievements are the result of your own work, and faith alone will not get you anywhere. |

It's pretty selfish to think that God has a favourable interest in your sports team. That means that he has to be against your opponent. I wouldn't have a problem if they only prayed for each others safety. But they don't, they pray for something selfish like victory. |

I don't follow religion like y'all extent, but I do believe in God and Jesus. Speaking on that, if God didn't give you the tools to save a life, then even if God didn't do it personally, God still placed said person on Earth for that particular example. I agree about the sports jazz however. |

You should do the research before you come on the thread because if you did I wouldn't have to put up a whole bunch of links. Justsaiyanbro And I honestly don't see what's the problem with people thanking God. A lot of people get strength and extra motivation from their faith so why not acknowledge it. If you got a problem, oh well, sounds like a personal issue. |

Thanking God is basically telling the person that whatever happened wasn't a result of their actions, but God. Scoring a goal/touchdown/whatever isn't the result of praying to God, it's the result of the player's skill. Being told that your achievements are almost solely down to some kind of divine intervention instead of your own hard work and training is very frustrating. It doesn't matter if people get strength and motivation from praying, acknowledging an individual's skill and their achievements as their own is just common courtesy. |

It's a show of humility. They know how hard they've worked. They're just showing some gratitude and being thankful for the position they are in. I honestly think it's funny if Atheists get upset over this kinda stuff. It's really not a big deal. |

Thanking God for victory means that God acted unfavourably to another party, which shouldn't happen. God is without bias. It doesn't make me angry when I see it but I just think oh shut up. |

I think we've pretty much established that whether or not he was an actual person really doesn't matter. Either way, he wasn't the man from the bible. |

No thanks. I'd rather not do research on your behalf just because you decide to spout off nonsense without backing up anything you say to make a half-ass remark to boost your post count. Maybe i've already done the research and i'm simply checking to see if you have any idea what you're talking about? Maybe I haven't. It doesn't matter what I do, that's not the point. Take accountability for what you say and post at least one link of a reputable source. Otherwise I see no reason to believe or take anything you say seriously. Take Note I came here to debate. Not inject opinion like yourself. So before you come into this area, do your research and post what you find so I don't have to put up a whole bunch of links on how to hold a position of debate. Agreed. Normally when making such a generalized statement that involves statistics, links are appreciated. |

I thought it was common knowledge that many nonChristian historians accepted the existence of Jesus of Nazerene. The only thing half-ass is debating without researching the basics of this argument. And pretty much all the generalized statements here and arguments come without links. Get off my case. |

I always back up my statistics with links; however, I don't usually post generalized statistics. That's the problem here. Anyways, moving on. Who cares. |

Not trying to be insulting, but I have a seriously hard time believing in an all-loving God who actually spends the time to grace you with relatively minor victories when you have to consider the fact that there's children suffering with cancer, and when you consider how many ways the Universe is trying to kill us. Most of the known universe is uninhabitable to humans because the radiation is so high. If the Universe was made by a God, it certainly wasn't created for humans. That's for sure. God's either not all good, he's not all powerful, or he simply doesn't exist. And if he does exist, he can't be both good and all-powerful given the context of reality. This is the one reason why I'm an agnostic Atheist. It's not that I don't believe in the possibility of a God, I just don't believe in the Biblical God, or any other god in any type of scripture.
