Why the Abridged Hate?

The Last GT Fighter

So I wasn't really sure where this went, whether it was in a Z or GT/Movie thread, or if it belonged here. Fan Works seemed a bit less risky. I'm trying to figure something out with the fanbase: Why all the TFS hate?

I mean, abridging is a thing. It's parody, we get lots of parodies, they happen and usually are just there to lampoon the silly things about awesome stuff. And they're pretty funny. Space Balls, very funny. Does that make Star Wars less amazing? Of course not, have you PLAYED the Force Unleashed? Starkiller for Episode 7 please. Robin Hood, men in tights? Better than I'd say 75% of the Robin Hood adaptations. Scary Movie? Actually made Scream watchable. A Haunted House? Meh, but still better than the source material, and has some fun with the dumb idea.

What really gets me is that almost anyone I talk to that likes either the card game, the manga or the anime Yugioh just loves the abridged series. I figured the same would be for DBZ, but you get a lot of people that either love it or hate it. And the hate runs deep, they hate how the characters are portrayed and think of it as a very venomous attempt to derail the franchise. And I don't see it. There are a few comparisons drawn and they do exaggerate the tone of some characters (Chi-Chi's general B*cthiness, Krillin's fear, Piccolo's fusion's are just great, etc.) but they really do show some attention to detail that proves that Lani, Vegeta, Masako and even Little Kuriboh himself just love the show.

Now I get that Yugioh is a bit more of a ridiculous concept (Ancient Eygptian Soul Stealing Card Games? Really?) but in fairness a bunch of alien were monkeys flying around planets and shooting lasers in a battle to get seven magic rocks that summon an inter-dimensional mythical reptile genie... I mean how seriously do you expect anyone to take that? If you told someone that's what Dragon Ball was, not only would that be a correct assessment, they would be like "Who the F*ck green lights that?"

I guess it seems to get the worst of it since it has more exposure than perhaps the Avatar Abridged Series of the Yu Yu Hakusho Abridged series (Both of which are sadly debunked.) And no body's taken Pokemon seriously since 2002, so abridging it apparently wasn't a big deal either. But I still don't get it! Are we so proud as a fan base that Dragon Ball Z is untouchable? Z itself is a master piece? (Because evidently no one gives a kark about Dragon Ball and everyone hates GT for the same reasons they love the Buu Saga, which is a whole 'nother rant actually.) But really? What has Team Four Star done to your precious show? It's a thirty year old japanese super hero show! Yes it's a classic, but so is Spider-man, so is The Transformers, so is Star Wars, so is Superman so is Batman, so on and so fourth and they are soooooooooo not above reproach and are far from flawless. Though I'd almost argue that Spider-man is the least flawed, but again that's another rant.

*Phew*

So, with that out of the way... Why do you hate TFS' Dragon Ball Z Abridged (If at all?)

DBZ abridged is possibly the most abridged series out there except maybe Yu-gi-oh. I actually never see it get any hate but then again I don't go looking for it. People here seem to like it, though the thread for it isn't very active, and their videos always have a massive number of likes compared to dislikes. When they post a new ep link on FB it gains hundreds of likes within seconds. It's mostly the gaming stuff people will complain about because they feel like it cuts into their DBZ abridged time, which TFS have repeated multiple times that it doesn't.

Some people are just prideful.

Some people just have the mindset that "DBZ is a flawless series, and it's so badass all the time, and so awesome, everyone's such a badass, and it's all super serious, Dragon Ball isn't like that so I don't like it. DBZ IS SO BADASS AND AWESOME ZOMG!"

Hardcore Bruce Faulconer fans, don't look at this, or prepare to possibly be offened. WARNING

Basically, they can't take DBZ not only being super comedy oriented, though also called on on some of it's flaws and weirdness to an extent.

Or there's people who just don't find it funny ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The Abridged series gets hate? Mind you I'm sure someone's going to dislike something regardless of what it is. But its gotten to the point where I think people remember and recognize the abridged series more than they do the original source itself.

I don't hate TFS. I don't find it that funny after Ginyu Force. But I don't see hate for it. However I do get annoyed when I see TFS comments on my Amvs. We get it you've watch an episode of TFS that included this scene. Sometimes I think people buy or watch a scene in the show just to make TFS comments.

I love the Dragon Ball Z Abridged series, it's much better than every other Dragon Ball parody out there. The others are usually disturbing for some odd reason. . . The only thing I really hate about it is the whole Krillin owned count thing, as stupid as this sounds I really don't like seeing Krillin be the loser of the show.

I didn't say the Ginyu Force wasn't funny. I said after the ginyu force it stopped being funny.

I have only come across a few people who haven't liked it.. But by the sound of it, is there actually a lot of hate for TFS? Have I been oblivious to the hate or..?

To me it is simply just better, way better than the original anime, and not only for the humor mind you: indeed I find it hilarious to say the least that TFS characters' personality is much better developed than the original anime ones', not to talk about the ability of voice actors (I find them to be much better than the original voice actors) and the quality of the whole crew who works behind every single scene.
TFS Abridged is not just a stupid parody like every other crap around which distorts the original meaning and plot of DBZ, contrariwise it follows strictly the plot, doesn't miss any important detail and it enhances the overall quality of the show compared to the original anime, making also fantastic explanations of DBZ flaws, like when a Z fighter stands still and wait his opponent to transform (see Piccolo vs 3rd form Freeza) or when Krillin never uses his Kienzan.
The only thing I think someone could complain about is that the fights are shortened compared to the orginal anime, but I can get over it, since otherwise it wouldn't be an Abridged series, as its name says.

If I'd want to take things super seriously (like in debates, even if I don't care debating about DB anymore), there's always the manga, otherwise, to me, only TFS Abridged exists.

I haven't really seen much hate for it, either. I think it's pretty funny personally.

The hate I do see is the kind of people who probably take things too seriously/can't take a joke. I see a lot of those in the DB-Community.
