Recently I've noticed that DBZF in particular uses a lot of browser memory.

Here's a screenshot of the Chrome Task Manager.

Not sure if this applies for all browsers, although I assume so. Could anyone tell me why this is? I know for a fact that other members have the same issue.

Yeah, it uses a lot of memory for me too.

If I turn Avatars/Signatures/Images off, it uses 30/50MB

Could be all the adverts on here.
There's not that many, but it still eats up memory.

The reason for chrome taking up more memory is because its design model is based on "multi process model".Which means in a nut shell, each "tab" takes up memory, even if its the same tab you open. That is each tab uses a separate process instead of a seperate thread. That is each tab acts a running process.Actually it depends on how you open the new tab or window. It opens as a new process if you press "open in incognito window" option.

The reason for this design is that, if a tab goes down then it wont take the whole browser down(in a nut shell).

So basically the trade off is between performance/speed vs memory. And chrome designers choose the former. So,it may be seen as the fastest browser while you have huge chunk of RAM, it becomes the slowest browser when you have low chunk of RAM.

For detailed info you can visit the following link

blog.chromium.org/2008/09/google-chrome-memory-usage-good-and-bad.html?m=1

It explains deeply about the chrome browser design model, its advantages and disadvantages also.

Another reason that pages take up a lot of RAM is because these days most of the pages include lot of javascripts and Flash content which consumes a lot of RAM.

Firefox is using about 650MB of RAM for me right now, and I've got 13 tabs open, 6 of which are YT videos. FF doesn't use separate processes for each tab like Chrome does so I don't think there's a way to isolate which tab(s) is using the most memory on it.

For those of you with this issue can you please try to isolate if it only occurs on certain threads or in general - maybe there is a particular user or two that is always present and their signature is causing the problem.

Alternatively it may be some scripting in the background causing it (although more doubtful from my understanding as we haven't changed anything for a while) so the more info you can give us the better thanks.

Well, the issue was at its worst in the 'How strong is Broly' thread, and the DBZ 2015 Movie thread, iirc.

It might be the signatures. I turned them off, and the memory usage has been around 70/80 without shooting up for no reason.

I'd rather not, but it is what we talked about in IRC.
