"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!"

Something recently occurred to me. Goku stated both times when he fought in Super Saiyan 3 that he was holding back to let others have a shot. Do you believe that he was actually holding back? And if he was actually holding back, how strong do you think that he actually is? Edited by Ketchup Revenge, Aug 1 2014, 02:48 PM.

Well I believe there's typically about a 1.6x difference between someone relaxed and there full power. Soo I'd say he's abit over 60 percent. |

Truthfully I don't know. The Buu arc and post Buu arc content is full of oddities. All I know is that Goku is still relevant. |

I thought he only said he was holding back against kid buu for vegeta in the anime or English dub. When he was fighting fat buu, I think he was pulling his punches not holding back power. I don't think they can suppress themselves unless they've mastered the form can they? |

Vegeta was surprised that Goku was not holding back against Kid Buu IIRC... |

He was holding back against Majin Boo(Fat Boo) but subsequently went all out in Super Saiyan 3 against Kid Boo, and to no avail failed to destroy him before he was sucked dry of energy. I believe after he imeddiatey transformed he was at full power, but the form (at that time) was wasting more energy than it could produce for sustainability and combat. He was constantly at a deficit. |

Piccolo asking Goku "what if you went all-out" or whatever after Goku had fought Fat Boo seems to imply that Goku's chi output > Goku's effort. He didn't hold back at all against Kid Boo, though, so he's right around that level. Edited by Kyouks, Aug 1 2014, 04:06 PM.

He told Vegeta he was holding back so that Vegeta could have a chance. This was immediately before he'd complained that he needed a minute to recover his ki, and that Vegeta would have to take over. |

Wasn't it Vegeta who said (or assumed) that? Before the fight, Goku even says that he'd go all out and that Vegeta might not get a shot. When Goku mentions 1 minute, Vegeta realizes that Goku wasn't thinking of him. |

Yeah, this is one of the gaping plot holes in the plot swisschese that is the Majin Buu Saga. Goku harps on fusion and even states to Goten and Trunks that Super Saiyan Ascended Further Beyond isn't enough to beat Buu. And then does mention he could have beaten the inital Majin Buu as at the aforementioned level but thought he should give Gohan and the boys a shot (despite the fact that Goku thought Gohan was dead during his fight with fat Majin Buu) So... Yeah Goku apparently has no idea how strong he is or isn't of what he's been doing during the whole last three seasons all of the sudden. Go figure. |

I definitely don't think Goku can suppress a form that he can barely stay in.

Why not? The less energy he uses, the less strain the form would have. |

Imagine lifting weights and trying to hold back strength. That's how I see SSjin 3 being. |

Hypothetically speaking though, suppressing energy would be reducing the weight the not the strength used to lift said weight. The form is only as "heavy" as the energy you're using. |

I don't see it that way. I think the form is the weight. It's noted at least once that the form itself causes strain. If it was related to ki output, the same would hold true for every form, why just SSjin 3. Maintaining it is what takes so much energy, thus holding back in that form doesn't make sense to me. |
