Not using Toriyama's ultra candid moon interview solves all the issues on this thread. Pieces of the moon fell on Yamcha and Krillin, that's how close they were.

why not?
So, you expect me to throw out a statement from the manga in favour of an interview I haven't even read? Manga > Interview
? didn't the manga say According to legend it's 1 million kilometers? meaning it's not concrete
Could you tell me how large the Milky Way is? Once you see that, you'll know. With Toriyama saying that the moon is the same distance from the Earth as it is IRL, one can assume that the Solar System/Galaxy is the same size, otherwise the proportions would be too messed up. Would the legend really be that far-off from the truth? Didn't Yemma travel it? Surely he'd notice if it was, y'know, half the length of the Universe.
the milky way is 120,000 Light years in diameter
Yup. How many miles would that happen to be?
70,543,504,480,000,000 miles if i did my math right
So, Snake Way is 35,000,000,000,000,000 miles long? Kii~iinda doubting that
Actually more That's where I draw the line.
There's no need to have Snake Way that long. When we have a statement in the manga (which Yemma never disputes), I prefer to take that over some interview that I still haven't seen.

It's not like he was taking measurements

If Goku could travel over 1,000,000,000 kilometers in 1 day, he could reach Vegeta and Nappa in a second. It creates an inconsistency. Like I said, a wormhole eff makes far more sense.

So Mr. Toriyama intentionally misled us even though he's very particular and serious with his dialogue?

My new belief.
1,000,000 is an absolutely baseless number. Just like a lot of the power levels early on. Those were dropped somewhat early in DBZ, maybe the snake way length was too?
