"decided that their tails are unnecessary appendages" I presumed that answered the question. They kept them removed, as they had no need for them. |

Vegeta told the Freeza planet doctors that it would grow back. Vegeta should know about the tails better than anyone else. Toriyama answered that the tails would eventually become unnecessary and get in the way, but that still doesn't answer why it doesn't grow back. Especially while we have Vegeta stating in the manga that it would, even though it didn't later on. |

Lol, sounds like Toriyama-Sensei was covering up the fact that he forgot about it again, like with Launch, and Gohan's tail for that matter. It's a long series, little details fall through the cracks. |

He did answer the question as it suits everyone. As for what you're saying, when Toriyama was making that scene he just had a different theory on Vegeta's tail, that he wanted the tail back and was waiting for it to grow back. Or we can assume that Vegeta just said it will grow back so he could cover his losing his pride to Freeza (or just lied to them so Freeza would still consider having use for him as Oozaru), but secretely not leting the tail grow back so he would have less weaknesses. Or he just changed his mind to what he said and didn't want his tail anymore. |

I think there was some other interview where he said he got rid of tails because they were a nuisance to draw. I hope I'm not making that up lol. |

As turning into a Oozaru was not as relevant once they they achieved Super Saiyan, a more reliable power source. |

Strategically speaking, they can cause a disadvantage even if strengthened. Look at how Son Gohan was able to manhandle Goku by holding him by the tail. Even if Goku had his tail toughened up, he wouldn't have been able to escape that attack. It just provides your opponent another possible way to grab onto you and attack you. Piccolo tried that. Look what happened to him. I mean Freeza, Cell, and Beerus had tails. They rarely got caught by the tail unless they attacked with it. |

Nah Piccolo tried holding the tail, not attacking it. Had he tried swinging Nappa around by his tail, I'm sure he could have had an effective attack. |

You think Nappa would allow that. He would just counter. The interview fails to explain why Vegeta tail never came back |

Maybe it was the continuous Ki beatings he took. Gohan's apparently never grew back, unless you count a movie or two, and his got sliced off by a Destructo disk. Maybe the spirit bomb did some sort of nerve damage and his tail couldn't grow back? |

I thought only Saiyan children could regrow their tails? Hence Kid Goku and Kid Gohan regrowing them numerous times. What isn't explained is why their tails don't reappear when they die. I mean Tien's arm reappeared in other world, why don't Goku and Vegeta's tails? New body, new tail. Also, Yamcha's scars should disappear.
