The one that annihilated him. How was it capable of homing in on him? As far as I can tell, it was just a casual blast.

A homing Ki attack doesn't seem too farfetched to me. He also may have been controlling it himself like Freeza did with the discs, though I can't remember the scene so it is completely possible that the movie proves me wrong.

Yeah Piccolo is probably good enough with ki that he can manipulate it with his mind. He probably can sense Dore's ki and "lock on" to it with his mind. Then the blast just goes at the target.

That would make sense, Super. That is what I originally thought, just wanted to hear other opinions.

It was a homing blast. He used one against Krillin, didn't he?

Sensing the opponent's ki, it pursues them until it inflicts damage. It is also possible to fire two.

Fun fact. Piccolo actually uses this attack against Goku in the 23rd Budokai aswell. The attack is called Tsuibidan, more commonly known as Chasing Bullet.

This leads to Piccolo being hit by it himself and subsequently the introduction of the ability of regeneration.

Homing ki blasts were a surprise back in the days. Goku didn't see nothing like that comin'.

Now... how does the energy ball itself pull something off like sensing ki from a fleeing target? Interesting and awesome... but man.

I think it's a bit misunderstood. The chi blast itself doesn't follow on it's own accord. Piccolo has such good chi manipulation and very keen sight, he's just able to masterfully control the blast after his opponent.

Not even the Super Kamikaze Attack acted on it's own accord. Gotenks made it all up in his head with unbelievable control over his chi. He even made an act out of it.

Guided-type
Techniques where a bullet of ki is freely manipulated. These could be said to have the advantage of being able to precisely aim for the target object. The ultimate form of these types of attacks is Gotenks' Super Ghost Kamikaze Attack. This technique is not mere manipulation, but rather the fired ki (ghost) possess its own consciousness, and can act according to the user's orders and through its own will.

Would this work for a regular homing ki blast? I think they sense you out and follow you on their own. But I don't mind the user capable of guiding it, as a part of his manipulation of the technique.
