I know damn well that the fans did not appreciate Goku for saving the Earth or being in the Budokai. So did Goku do some off-screen thing or was the statue was for fans who watched DB-DBZ- and DBGT and was a final goodbye...till YO SON GOKU AND FRIENDS RETURN! Perhaps the people of Earth was being nice for Goku since he saved the day with the Genki Dami and Mark Satan told the truth for once. |

He was recognized as one of the greats through Budokai history. Hercule had a statue too. |

Mr. Satan got a statue because he's Earth's biggest hero and is Dragonball's version of Hulk Hogan. There was other greats in the Tenkaichi Budokai like Krillin(A common contester) and Roshi. Wasn't it even a guy in the Budokai who won more than once but Goku easily kick his a*** in the Preliminary rounds? |

Goku won the 23rd Budokai and Mark might have told the fans that Goku was the No.2 guy compared to him thus him becoming famous. |

Roshi was never confirmed to win the Budokai... as himself at least. Chapa-o only one it once. Akkuman was stated to have won it twice, but he's hardly a person people would look up to. Krillin was in 2 semifinals and 1 quarterfinal. Goku was in 3 finals and won one. |

Toei just did it to give goku some credibility at the end of the series to say fare well. That and he was fairly well known in the tounament as a bit of a legend so if they where going to do something like that for goku that would be the place. While it marks goku's legacy, in a sense it takes away a big part of what goku was about, as he is the type of hero that doesn't care about the fame and was more than happy for the world to not know he saved them from total domination countless of times. That good does not have to be done, to get something back. That was goku throughout the entire series, and it's what made goku stand alone in terms of heroes. Gt changed that and tended to make goku become more famous and well known. The statue didn't overdo it I suppose, and it came after his leave, so in that respect I guess it's ok since it gives those who knew him something to remmember him by, and to say he really was a legend. But it's still just gt, dragonball ended at z, and we all know it. I just think of gt as a different show. Edited by Crow, Jul 21 2014, 09:30 AM.

I think the best answer is, recognition for how outstanding of Budokai contestants they were. They both ran that b*** when they were there fighting. |

They were making a big deal about Mr. Satan and Goku, both former champs, both the grandfathers of Pan. That's another reason why there was statues of them. |

Oh yeah, that was the mechanism they used to introduce Goku Jr. wasn't it? I guess it's a general legacy allegory then, which is somehow more boring than it just being a statue because, new stadium gets you a statue. |

His brother in law made a statue for him most likely. It's not like Hercule didnt like Goku or that most of earth wasn't transported off the planet when it blew up by him. |
