Piccolo - Weighted or not?

Okay, so this is not a thread about Piccolo's power per se. This is about him using weighted clothing.

So, when he was about to fight 17, he took of his clothing and threw it away. We didn't see it hit the ground, so can we question whether he used them or not? I think that's fair, considering the power statements up to that point. I think he dropped the weighted clothing, much like Goku did. I think Goku has been suppressing his power up until the power-up he displays against 17.

What do you guys think?

Explain how wearing heavy clothes decreases your power level and you will find your answer.

Are you questioning that it exists or is your question something else entirely?

Chapter: 199 (DBZ 5), P9.5, P10.2
Context: said after Goku removes his weights
Raditz: “Kakarot is 416...!”

He's wondering about the logic behind weights lowering the amount of chi you put out.

Easiest answer: it's faulty logic on Toriyama's part in an attempt to show that weights hinder your performance in a fight. Personally I ain't willing to go any deeper than that at this hour.

I don't think he did wear them anymore.

His turban and shoulder pads were more ceremonial, like how boxers have robes on when they step into the ring, and then they take them off when they fight.

If it doesn't decrease the power level, at the very least it decreases fighting capabilities.

Then perhaps the one and only display of it effecting power level could be written off as a coincidence of process.

Something like:
[Weighted] Goku @ Radtiz = [Resting/Casual/Strolling Down the Beach] Goku
[Unweighted] Goku @ Raditz = [Ready to fight] Goku

Or whatever you refer to those states as.

...if you can understand the idea I'm getting at without me going into more detail.

Happened in the Freeza fight too.

Piccolo (Unweighted) > 2nd Form Freeza (FP) > Piccolo (Weighted) > 2nd Form Freeza (Initial)

Ya said it yourself, Em. It'd still affect fighting capabilities :gokudance:

Or perhaps not. The weights doesn't seem much of a hindrance initially against Freeza. Krillin and Gohan didn't even realize he was using them.

No one notes an increase in power though. He removes the weights and is less hindered... but his power may not have changed at all.

I'm pretty sure he was weighted always. It was mentioned once, so it's safe to assume that he continued it unless something states otherwise.

I guess power is irrelevant then.

I believe Vertical is referring specifically to power (i.e. chi) level as he has from the start, folks.

It's fine, I wasn't arguing power anyway.
