Whenever people talk about how nothing can travel faster than light, I always want to tell them that we cannot currently fathom the mathematics that might allow for FTL. Never say to a scientist he cannot do something because it is impossible: He'll go out of his way to prove you wrong.
Which is pretty ironic considering scientists are the ones saying it's impossible
Why do you think science advances so quickly? :w00t:

Also from my understanding of physics mathematically we can talk about hyperspace and the like, but we can't apply it :P It's only theoretical until the engineers get a bit further along.

Its one of the things. To say there is life on that exo-planet particularly, is a bit premature, but to say we're the only source of life in the entire universe is just down right silly.

Considering stuff like this : 2 radio telescopes recieve a signal....from space

I can only presume that we are 100% not alone. The only thing is, the faster than light speed travel stuff. As above, maybe we and/or others will figure that out, but even then how quick will that be. Our understanding is only of Light speed at the moment.

As an example Kepler 22 is 620 light years away. That would mean travelling for 620 years at light speed to get there. So if other planets/civilizations do exist, who is to say we'll ever meet them?

It's not these kinds of articles that convince me, just the pure mathematics behind the size of the universe.

It is downright impossible for the universe to be as big as it is and yet be devoid of any life besides ourselves.

Yeah, I totally agree with you on that, I was just pointing out that we also get the odd thing popping up which points in the that direction of saying: "100% confirmed that extra terrestrial life exists".

Logic would dictate that with the seer (supposedly) infinite size of the universe, something else must be there. But then again, until we can actually prove it, it will just be an idea.

I think as a species we don't really want to be alone, because the overall thought of living in an infinite universe alone would just be depressing, but then again that might just be me.

Both ideas are scary

Either 1, somewhere aliens exist
Or 2, we are the only living creatures in a void that is infinite long, a lonely planet surrounded by by an incredible mass of emptiness

There might be life in our solar system. Not life as we know though.

I think humanity as a whole isn't ready for interaction with extraterrestrials. If it's an advanced race that has way better technology than ours, it probably already knows we exist and by going onto their turf we might make things worse. If it's a less advanced race than I can see us trying to take their planet eventually.

That reminds me of what Dr. Michio Kaku once said.

Ever heard of the Kardashev scale? It's essentially used to measure a civilization's level of technological advancement, based on the amount of energy a civilization is able to utilize.
Type I, II and III are the 'main' ones. We're type 0, btw.

But as Michio Kaku once said, any civilization that's maybe hundreds to thousands of years more technologically advanced than we, might already know of us. But we're so primitive compared to them, so they don't care about us. We're perhaps like ants to them, and we don't go around looking for ants.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

I read a statistic somewhere in a book when I was sixteen, stating that, due to the size of the universe, you existed many times. As in, your entirety of being and consciousness is bound to repeat itself because the size of the universe is so hugely in calculable.

Of course we're not alone. We're fools if we think that.

You all better start to hope that, the discovery turns out to be some useless bacteria.Otherwise,I hope that you all are ready for being "catalogued".

Excuse my French, but what the f*** does that even mean?

In fact, why are you even saying it? You even used your trademark quotation marks there, so you KNOW you're being vague.
Now we're supposed to say: Boy CheckMateIzGod, what do you mean by that? To which you'll respond with what you're thinking about the matter
Instead of being vague why don't you just save us the trouble and tell us what you're thinking?

MGD.

Well it is believable I think but the other main planets like Mars, Neptune, excluding the Earth obviously, have been said to be unhabitable.

Uninhabitable by life as we know, yes. It still doesn't mean they're lifeless. There might be some strange life on Venus that can survive without oxygen and can tolerate the heat. There might be some strange life on the gas giants that can tolerate the cold, the pressure and don't need any solid ground to live on.

Who knows?

They drilled a 12 km hole in Russia and they found life at depths scientists considered to be impossible.
Who knows. there might be life 12 km down Mars' or Venus' surface.

Take tardigrades for example. They can survive in space, survive extreme heat, extreme cold, radiation, extreme pressures, can survive for years without water.

There might be something like these on the other planets as well.
