They could be bacteria, they could be dinosaurs, they could be cavemen, they could be the same as us or they could be like the Jetsons. |

finding extraterrestrial life would be more like a milestone than an impact. It's pretty much a mahtematical certainty that life exists on planets other than Earth. You have to be quite ignorant to truly believe that we're alone in the universe. Though I'm confused. Are they talking about actual alien animals? That should be interesting because if they're just talking about bacteria, wasn't it already confirmed with Europa? They found ice on that moon with bacteria in them so extraterrestrial bacteria were already confirmed weren't they? Just thought about what would happen if they were intelligent life like us. It would be hilarious because we wouldn't be able to communicate with them for a long time, their language won't be related to any of ours, there's no way we'd be able to translate anything they say and vice versa Edited by Ginyu, Jul 17 2014, 02:09 PM.

If there was an intelligent species and they weren't just homosapien I wonder how civil they are, honestly I reckon we'd be the barbarians. There'd be like one incident where a human does something against their culture and gets attacked then we'd have to murder them and take over. It'd be cool if they were just humans though but then again it'd be damn boring if they had all the same animals etc, however seems unlikely that if there were dinosaurs a meteor would have wiped them out. So how would human-like creatures evolve in that world? If all evolution follows a similar pattern it's most likely populated by dinosaurs and stuff. It's interesting that with how far away they are and how long light takes to get here there could actually be a super advanced civilization we just can't see yet. |

I think it would be similar to Earth but still way different. You'll probably get an entire planet that matches something such as Galapagos Islands or Socotra island. You'll see trees and plants and animals, but these creatures would be completely new to us as they did not interact with our animals |

From what I understand, it took a LOT of 'coincidences' for mammals then humans to become the top of the food chain. These aliens, if we find any civilization ever, will probably be insectoid or reptilian. Either way, I doubt we'll find them unless they want to be found. This new planet however, does bring in possibilities. |

I think the statement is a little late, to be honest. Obviously anyone with a scientific background should know that alien life is definitely out there somewhere with how vast our universe is, but common folk have been refusing to accept and believe that for years. |

That's because It's hard to comprehend. But yeah, It's a Mathematical certainty. Those people that don't believe it now won't believe it until they see them with their own eyes |

If we lose? Pfft, like we stand a chance? Real life is not sci fi. An interstellar war would be fought with disrupting gravity and decoupling nuclear forces. Pulse lasers and invasion forces make good movies, but not good military scenarios. If I were an alien and I wanted to kill all life on Earth, I'd just send a plague or melt the crust. But I really hope these aliens are not that impossibly advanced or even multicellular. That, or they have already become non biological. Look up "the Great Filter" and feel anxiety build. The chance that we find a planet with life as intelligent as us is very low |

Yes. Because 1) The chances of lifeforms as intelligent as us existing is only moderate to low and 2) Chances are if they exist they live too far away for us to ever discover them or interact with them at all. |

I was sorta joking. I love the idea of us finding some sort of life. Even if they're fish-like or insects. Would be awesome! Now the chances of MEETING them. Are slim to none. I suspect we can "Spy" on them though. Don't know how that works though. I remember back in 9th grade I think. We was taught that due to how light works in space(Forgot some things since School is out. Sorry if I'm ignorant) that we can see how certain objects look from millions of years ago. And if they did the same to us most likely they would't see humans but really old species like the Bacteria or perhaps some early reptiles. Though technology most likely improved. I suspect if the aliens are "advance" that it'll be similar to us humans making fire to cook our meals. Perhaps like they make fire for warmth or something. |

Impossible, if It's millions of lightyears away, than we will only see thing as they were millions of years ago. Nothing is faster than light, no matter how advanced your technology |

Well, we could still watch them millions of years ago if there were intelligent-ish aliens around. Obviously they'd all be more advanced or dead in real time though. I don't get why the assumption of most people is that if aliens can travel through space they will bring war or that they can destroy planets and stuff...they could just be totally peaceful and want to explore not dominate like us humans If any of the UFO sightings are real then unless we're some kind of experiment they just investigate us, if they wanted to they could have attacked us and it's been many many years since the first sightings so even if they didn't have weapons they could have made some by now, surely. I just wish scientists could confirm aliens and get pictures of them on some random planet it'd be awesome. Although conspiracy theorists and religions nuts would probably go wild. |
