Gohan said he'd win on the way home at one point, before the tournament.
Where are you getting this from? I've been hearing this everywhere lately. I reread the saga right now just to look for this. All there is on the subject is Bulma saying "It must be boring when you know you'll win by a huge margin no matter what", to which Vegeta pipes in and says otherwise. The second case, Gohan claims he can win some prize money if he enters, using it as a bribe to let him take time off school. Chi Chi goes crazy and says that he and Goku could win 15 million zeni together (1st and 2nd) to which Gohan says, "B-but we don't have any guarantee that..." and is cut off. There is no sign of confidence from him anywhere from what I read. Only before the others were invited. The prize money bit...it's sometime before that, when Gohan's on his way home. Find it. Confirm it.

He says "I'd want to win too... So I'll have to take time to get myself back in shape..." There we go. He intended to win, he just had to get back into shape, so he must've thought he still had the power advantage.

Seems more to me as though he wants to get back to his old level, hence why he said "back in shape". As I said earlier, he's delusional if he thinks Goku made no gains over 7 years.

He should know his own battle power... Why? Not once during the course of the first half of the Boo Arc does he indicate how weak he has become. He doesn't seem to realize.

He was miles ahead of everyone at the Cell Games. He lost power and everyone else gained, but he shouldn't have any confidence in gaining a s*** ton of power in about a month.

Isn't that what I just said? I misunderstood. We are not on the same page here. If Gohan got so much weaker that he's being laughed at by Vegeta, he should know how weak he has become. That Vegeta was still weaker than CG Gohan, so I'm pretty sure Gohan knew where he was at. The comments from Vegeta didn't seem to bother him at all, so he definitely knew how weak he was going into it.

So he ignores Goku's claim as well? What claim? That Goku says "he really has been slacking off"? Gohan was nowhere near to hear that.
