Class is different wherever you are too. Like in America, they don't really have an upper class like they do in the UK. They do still have an upper class, but it's not the same. Middle class is looked at differently too. Like here someone who is a GP or a head teacher of a secondary school would probably be considered middle class. But the American middle class seems much more like the British working class. Factory workers, warehouse workers, ect.
I'm not sure that's true, in the US, middle class workers are often office workers, manual labour workers and retail would still fall under our definition of working class, but in the US wages can be lower than ours for those kinds of workers.
"Working Class" workers in the US get jack for pay for the jobs that they do. It's often the office people who get more, and even they're being squeezed.

You have places like Seattle (Just the city, not the state of Washington), where the minimum wage is $15/hr. That's higher than any minimum wage in the US. You have the Federal minimum wage, but every state has a minimum wage as well, and some cities actually do too. The only requirement for any of these state or city minimum wages is that they can't be less than the Federal one.

I believe the federal Minimum wage is either $7 or $8 per hour. Machine workers and actual "working class citizens" who break their back on a daily basis on average only make 3-4 dollars over that.

I'm not saying that you can't live on the current minimum wage, but the main problem is that most of the places (which are fast-food joints) that pay minimum wage also don't give anyone full time hours and don't provide them with free meals. Minimum wage is livable if you work 40 hour weeks, but no one who pays minimum gives out 40 hour weeks.

I figure that it's fine if you want to pay minimum wage, but at least give them something else like free meals (while at work), and full time hours (40 hours per week).

I remember working at McDonald's and that was by far the worst job I ever worked. It wasn't really the customers or the work itself, but the way that the company treated you. The way in which they treated you for the amount of pay that you got just made you not care if you ever got caught stealing nuggets or burgers. It's not like the company respected your needs anyway, therefore you went in to simply get a paycheck every day.

Class systems are a part of being human. Constantly ranking each other at all times. People feel good when they are better than others. It is messed up, but it's true.
