Why Are Young People So Liberal?

Keep in mind I'm neither conservative or liberal, I think both ideologies can go f*** themselves (if the conservative or liberal is too extreme).

But it seems that young people in general think it's so cool to think many aspects older people believed in are wrong... It's like they believe that way because they don't know better.

This is also coming from a 20 year old who's tried being a liberal and democratic activist and slowly realizing how flawed my utopian belief system was. If people could just be more moderate, we wouldn't have so much division, and things would be more peaceful... That's the reality, but kids don't seem to think that.

What do you think?

Could you go into a bit more detail? I'm not exactly sure what your trying to get at.

As for me, i'm defiantly Socially Liberal seeing as I heavily reject Creationism being taught in public schools and other things. I don't mind Fiscial Conservatism however.

Because a lot of them are wrong.

- Homophobia
- Racism
- Pay gap between Men and Women
- Blasphemy still being a crime in many countries
- Video games are bad or something

List goes on and on.

you mean like regulating the banks that have proved for over a hundred years that they can't be trusted to do the right thing?

you mean like equal rights for everybody?

you mean like letting people live their own lives, instead of regulating everything you can and can't put into your own body?

you mean like taking care of the poor, and having an economic system that grants equality of opportunity to the less privileged?

you mean like making sure sick people get the medical care they need?

you mean like ensuring that if 2 people do the same work for the same company under the same conditions they get paid the same?

you mean like not imprisoning nonviolent offenders for profit?

i could keep going, but the reason young people agree with all these points is because they are clearly the right answers. every one of those points is obviously correct, and there are no good arguments against them.

so yes, young people tend to be either liberals or libertarians, because conservatives these days are a bunch of racist, sexist, authoritarian, greedy asswipes.
list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.

for those that blindly follow word of god

There's always going be a trend of a generation having some counterculture to the generations preceding it. Why are older people more conservative than younger people?

Heck, maybe the main reason younger people are more liberal is simply that older people are conservative.

It's always been this way. Churchill was considered a liberal when he was a young man. During and after the war he was blatantly conservative. Racist, bigoted and a drunk.

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!"

The culture that is now is completely different than what it was during our grandparents' time.
A lot of people were judgmental during most of our grandparents' time, and a lot of our grandparents still are, and religion was the major moral standpoint for the culture back then. However, our grandparents are simply byproducts of the time and culture that they grew up in, just as we younger folk are.
With younger people now, we are a byproduct of the civil rights movements, and the scientific innovation that has shaped our time.
We also have more access to information than our grandparents did during their time. On average, they estimated that the average high school senior now gets 12,000x the information on a daily basis than our grandparents did when they were that age.

In their time, it wasn't unacceptable to treat blacks (or other minorities) as inferior to whites. If you tried to do that now, it would be unacceptable.

People are racist because logically it makes sense. When you lived in a world where survival wasn't promised, sticking to your own kind was smart. People who look and act like you are of course going to feel more comfortable to you. Ever been the only white guy around a large group of black men? Ever been a black man in a large group of white guys? There is a clear tension there because of the drastically looking features. It's only natural to have that primal desire to stay with your " team ". We are living in the modern age where these primal instincts that helped get us to this point don't really have a place. But it's foolish to not look back in time and see why we are the way we are.

Same goes for homophobia. Being gay does not promote the furthering of our species. Thus, it has been looked down upon for centuries. Strictly gay people could not procreate because man and woman is needed to procreate. Nowadays, that isn't the case. We have come upon a time where the entire game has changed. We are experiencing and enlightenment of sorts and with the technology allowing us free access to everyone everywhere, we are starting to see the clash of new and old. As we look around the world, we look through time for humanity and we can see where we've been and where we will go. Also, different climates have resulted in different personalities. Ones which are meant for, yep, you guessed it, survival. What it takes to survive in the desert is completely different than what it takes to survive in the mountains. Everyone has had their own set of skills and traits passed down for generations and generations, but the good thing is, we as humans can never be satisfied. We must progress. We have made major progress over the years and our future is looking brighter than ever to having a more peaceful, safe world.
