He would have fought his way out of the absorption if he was strong enough to compete against Cell, in any kind of way. Cell, when injured, is still superior to No. 17. #16 ~ Cell > Cell (injury) >> Piccolo >= #17 Edited by Professor Gohan, May 31 2014, 03:51 PM.

He was caught off guard, just before he was absorbed. #16 doesn't deny Lapis' claim but still infers for him to run in risk of being absorbed. |

He still would have had the power to do what he needed to do. He didn't, so that still makes him close to as inferior as before because power is mostly the key here. |

He would have given a better fight than what he did if they are as close as you think they are. He was literally swallowed whole without doing anything in return besides screaming. No. 17 is cocky, and he couldn't even sense Cell. He was being his usual self. No. 16 was being aware the entire time. |

??? How could he have given a better fight if he was caught off guard, he can't sense sure but that doesn't explain anything. #16 strictly told Lapis to leave so he won't get absorbed, he says no and now's that he's weaken he can finish him. I'm pretty sure cockiness has nothing to with his confidence here seeing as he traded blows with him earlier. Edited by Solid Snake, May 31 2014, 04:05 PM.

Key word "thought" after going neck in neck with Cell, Lapis acknowledges #16's power. How's that showing he's a dumbass if he admits himself weaker. |

For the record, I have weak Imperfect Cell over 2x stronger than 17, so he is getting nowhere. 17 is showing confidence because he was with 16, not because he was confident in his own abilities. |

You know what's amusing though? He acutely judged that Lazuli couldn't handle all of the Z-fighters without his help and we know he can't sense ki. He knew hew could take on Cell after he fought him (so he knows Cell's strength) and knew he could beat the weaken Cell (post Hell's Flash). And him getting absorbed has nothing to with his strength in any case. It did, but it wasn't something that #16 counted on to win it. Besides, both were comparable to another, the same goes for SSJ2 Kid Gohan and Super Perfect Cell. Even though they were close, Cell's reduced Gohan's power to near half. That's a lot, and Cell could have lost the same amount for all we know. @ Super Saiyan Lapis' confidence is within himself, sure #16's there but that doesn't mean he was relying on his help afterwards. Unless you can prove it. |

No. 17's confidence means jack because he literally has no way to prove himself. He can't sense ki so he can't can't make a comparison. Its just like Freeza, he can't be confident because he knows his ki is higher, he just assumes. Now lets say Cell started to fight in this weakened state and No. 17 showed confidence. There at least you can imply that No. 17 is confident after watching that weakened Cell fight that he could do something else. But even that's pushing it. There's just too much of a gap though between Cell and No. 17. We're talking about a guy who literally tanked an amplified attack from Piccolo who by himself was implied to have at least a small edge in power of No. 17 as well. It's not like Cell after getting hit by the Hell Flash was left dead on his feet, gasping for air and barely able to move. |

#16, after blasting Cell, says to Lapis to leave while there's still a chance to escape, Lapis responded by calling out Cell to fight and mentions he can take him now (he already fought him once prior) and #16 doesn't deny his retort. And your ki sensing theory can't help here since Piccolo was able to determine how strong Gero would be despite being unable to sense him, so he had to figure it out by testing him - Lapis' situation is the same minus the testing, he had a good grasp of Cell's power after being beaten earlier. |

16 clearly denies that "confidence" that 17 supposedly had. Chapter: 372 (DBZ 178), P8.3 Context: after Cell is hit with the Hell’s Flash No.16: “He’s not defeated! He probably took damage, but he’s not the sort of opponent to be killed by that level of attack!” 16 was worried about the others, not himself. It's pretty clear.
