This is a theory I thought of to help better explain Gohan's power in both BoG and GT. What if Gohan never lost his ability to use SSJ (or at least could still use SSJ and still gain power) and the only reason he refrained from using it is because he would have to revert back to his Post-Zeta sword Base form? From the Buu Arc onwards, he would have to train from his Post-Zeta sword Base self to make his SSJ and SSJ2 relevant again because both are heavily outclassed by his "Mystic" state. This might be the reason why he never used SSJ against Beerus because it wouldn't increase his power and only bring his power down. This would also explain why we don't see Gohan's "Mystic" state in GT because by then, he would have brought his Base form to a point where it could surpass his Mystic state or to a point where he could surpass his Mystic state just by using SSJ. Thoughts? |

That could work, but I personally find the idea of Gohan now having two separate "branches" of power too complicated and unnecessarily messy. I prefer to think that Gohan can still go Super Saiyan on TOP of his 'Ultimate' state, but doing so doesn't normally grant him any power, and instead it just makes light and wastes energy. In Battle of Gods, he may have lost some power getting his a*** kicked by Beerus, and so transformed for the ritual in order to make sure he was giving as much power as he could to Goku (though the "real" answer is more likely that they didn't want to bother de-golding his hair for the ritual scene like they did when he fought earlier). As for GT... I dunno, it's GT. Maybe things have changed over those 15 or so years, and Gohan's power is reverting somehow, or more dormant power has built up and made Super Saiyan worth using again, or... whatever... |

Yeah, BoG and GT paint different pictures as to how much power Gohan can get through SSJ. BoG has Gohan gaining no additional power through SSJ while GT does. It's important to note here that the GT Perfect Files states that Gohan didn't slack off from his training so the theory could hold true if Gohan somehow managed to make his Base or SSJ stronger than his Mystic self and doesn't bother with that state anymore. Nothing ever stated about Gohan training in BoG so that would explain why he would rely on his Mystic state against Beerus. |

This is a good theory, but when Elder Kaioshin tells Gohan to go SS he clearly can't and only powers up. Still doesn't take away that this is a good theory, but that statement and his attempt is too much for me. However, I do think it's cool that you're trying to come up with a reasonable explanation as to why Gohan goes SS in GT... so, very good. |

Maybe Elder Kaioshin told him to power up the way he would normally do it for SSJ and hence him going "Mystic". He does say something among the line so that so I think. |

He tells Gohan to do that Super Saiyan thing he does. I even have my own theory about this that also goes along with the SS power. I think I'll post mine too, thanks for making this Thread. But yeah, I really do like your take on things and how you see it. |

Thanks! It was just a theory I thought of when I was thinking of general DB stuff. And yeah, my best guess is that he just told him to go SSJ the way he would normally do to unlock his Mystic state which (at the time) would be more effective then any of his SSJ/SSJ2 states. Then he would have to spend years and years bringing his Base higher to obtain a SSJ/SSJ2 state steonger than his potential unlock. Having two flows of power is feasible hence Goku having access to both Kaioken and SSJ forms. |

Gohan lost Ultimate because TOEI thought Ssj looked coolers Its the same reason Goku and Vegeta were trying to fuse again with waiting an hour and why half the plot of GT doesn't follow Z that well. |
