So I finally got around to watching the movie. Does anyone care to discus the events of the film with me (time period, power scaling, etc)?

First question: When exactly did this take place? Goku could use akaioken, but he was also capable of turning SSJ. So would this be right around the time of Namek?

I did a thread on this a long time ago if you want to read it you can.

http://dbzf.co.uk/topic/8423224/1/

Anyways, I think Goku was the same power here like he was at his Arrival on Namek, 90,000.

...& Lord Slug (Giant) is stated to be superior to a Super-Saiyan (I think the Super-Saiyan. Goku in this Movie)

Goku used Kaio-Ken x100 & some of Piccolo's power to defeat Lord Slug according to something, I can't remember

Also I don't think you can really place it anywhere in the official time-line.

This movie was released around the same time Goku's fight against Freeza was happening on the manga, but before he turned Super Saiyan.

I'm personally not a big fan of this movie. It felt like a bad rip-off of the Piccolo Daimao arc. Namekian villain comes, looks for the Dragon Balls to get immortality, manages to get his wish but ends up killed by Goku (even the classic punch to the chest scene was replicated here).

It should be around the time of Namek. The real question is, is Goku based upon his Pre-Ginyu Fight or Post-Ginyu fight because that itself reall helps to lay down an area of where Slug and Goku are.

If it's Pre and using the SEG amps.

Giant Slug and SSJ Goku are around Initial Final Form Freeza.

However if its Post-Ginyu, then Goku and Slug are above 100% Freeza. It's clear I think that its taking to point the idea of what Super Saiyan could be like based upon how it was being built up during Namek before it was actually shown.

It takes place before the SSJ event , right after Frieza's 2nd or 3th transformation IIRC , and King Kai also calls Goku a SSJ ( meaning that AT first planned this form as a SSJ , but changed it later to blond).

Goku used a fking Kaioken x 100 ,its still questionable where Lord Slug stands. I dare to say that Slug

Lord Slug old form could be between 2nd form and 3nd form Frieza. Young Slug could be at Frieza 4th form , and Giant Slug should be at 100 milli's.

Never thought that Slug would this strong.

That's crazy. I was initially thinking that it was Goku @ Ginyu, so his SSJ power would be 4.5 million.

It's definitely possible for Giant Slug to trounce Freeza though, especially if Goku was post-Zenkai.

I don't think that SSJ Goku would beat Lord Slug , if you saw how Slug survived Goku's 100xkaioken. Or.. Goku got weakened before the kaioken , that could also be a point.

Yeah Mass Beast Slug was whooping *** and taking names. Upon his death he gave off the title of hax to Cooler who held it for a very long time before handing it over to Hirudengard.

You're not gonna believe this, but I think Slug may show who is the cooler one between him and Frieza's brother. I think Slug may defeat Cooler final form lol.

IMO, Slug is the most shettiest , boring villain in entire show but damn he can be strong.

What I heard was that Toei didn't know how Super-Saiyan was going to look like.

Nobody did, it was Toei's own vision of what Super Saiyan could be like from all the build up. The original title of the movie is after all "Super Saiyan Son Goku"

Indeed. And AT saw the design of SSJ , and didn't find it cool , so he turned it to blond. Sexism.

DBZ Movie 4: Super Saiyan Son Goku (Lord Slug)
Release Date: March 19, 1991
Manga Release (4 months back): "A Warrior’s Revival" (Nov 19, 1990)
Manga Release (6 months back): "The Last Wish" (Oct 15, 1990)
Latest Manga Chapter Release: "The Last Chance! An Extra-Large Genki-Dama" (Mar 18, 1991)
Between Episodes: #82 ("Sally Forth, Goku!! A Furious Freeza’s 2nd Transformation") - #83 ("Fear Me!! Freeza Does Battle With a 3rd Transformation")

To be fair, the film would have been scripted/produced long before Freeza transformed into his 3rd form in the anime.

I'm not exactly sure which manga chapters those are, but I'd say those are the accurate times to go by.

Just like I said.
But you're going by the release date. It released when Freeza went into his third form, yes. But the script and all of that good stuff would have been finished long before that. I'm thinking the Ginyu time period is more accurate.
