In what instances post Namek did Gohan get the chance to explode? You are also not taking into consideration that Gohan got older, as well. Of course Gohan didn't go absolutely nuts vs. Cell. This is supposed to be a Gohan finally in control of the power he had hidden inside. Now, say the manga had ended right there and then...would you look at it as Gohan as a SSJ2, or Gohan's dormant powers released? The entire story works up Gohan's hidden powers needing to be released, yet you think the hype was for a transformation? He transformed, yes, but with that transformation came a boost...a boost that was aided by Gohan releasing a great portion of all of that hidden power that was being hyped up from the start. I would look at it as if it were his dormant power, but that isn't supported by what we learn shortly after. It appears as though it is the culmination of his rage, but the rage is just culminated into his transformation. |

Hi. Edited my post to add content. EDIT: No, we are shown SSJ2 Gohan at the tournament. Later Vegeta claims he and Goku are stronger than him. Later Goku comments that if Gohan gets angry, he's back to being on top. This is before SSJ2 Goku reveals himself at full power and Vegeta comments that he is above SSJ2 Kid Gohan, who we know is stronger than SSJ2 Teen Gohan. So where is that extra power coming from? OK, SuperSaiyan2 I give up, you have point. I was just doing that out of fun anyways, if my posts didn't make it entirely clear. Although I definitely think there is a possibility for a Rage-Boost, but you've made your point. So all is good. |

Something also worth considering is that going from Base to Super Saiyan is different than going from Super Saiyan to Super Saiyan 2. Toriyama recently stated that Super Saiyan 2 and 3 are simply powered up versions of the Super Saiyan, in addition to there being no evidence that you need a catalyst to initiate either of those transformations. |
