I guess you have a point. It's rare when it happens but sometimes Animes can be better than their respective Manga's. Mostly, it's the other way around like Ruroni Kenshin. |

But seriously I don't know, I always thought of Yu-Yu-HakuSho as DragonBall rip-off. Also, I like that goofy expression Yusuke makes in your Avatar. |

The author's name is Yoshihiro Togashi... If you're still interested in YYH, though, you can also watch (don't read) Hunter X Hunter, which is his new Series. But the art in the HxH is even worse than YYH's... Here are some examples: Spoiler: click to toggle And it's not like he can't draw the s*** properly, either... I've seen decently drawn panels of both series before. @SHC, Bleach is more of a blatant rip-off of YYH than YYH is to DB, LOL. Edited by Big Green The Yoshi, May 16 2014, 01:02 PM.

Yeah I'm serious haha. The first season of attack on Titan was amazing. I loved it I couldn't stop watching. But other than eren and a few of the Titans, the characters aren't memorable for me. I will admit I'm not caught up with the manga. I'm waiting for season 2. That's why I'm kind of holding my judgement a little Anyway, back on topic Dbz plot is not bad like what some people say. It's just a simple plot sometimes which doesn't mean it's bad. But I will say that after frieza, the plot wasn't as deep(other than future trunks I guess) and it started losing the adventure aspect, one of the things that made the series extremely popular. The characters are very memorable even for people who barely know dbz. A memorable cast is important in a series IMO. They're designs IMO beat so many other designs in the 11 other animes I've seen. Piccolo gohan and vegeta have a lot of character development. Goku didn't really develop a lot but he showed A LOT of progression and I don't mean just getting stronger. He's still an interesting character too because he's not a perfect hero. He never has bad intentions, but he is selfish sometimes and that endangers others sometimes. Dbz has a lot of characters in it. Toriyama did a good move IMO of not developing some of them too much. Otherwise you get things like episode long flash backs in naruto. It just gets super boring and slow. The art style is unique. Most other anime all look the same but I've never seen any anime drawn like dbz is drawn. I also rarely see other series do the buff and ripped characters as well as dbz does it. The fight scenes are fast paced unlike some other animes. I hate naruto fight scenes for example since practically nothing happens in them except for flash backs about people I don't care about that last the rest of the episode. I've seen 11 other series and I still enjoy dbz more than any of them. There are some that are very close though. I've never seen anything that has as epic scenes as dbz does like the transformations, goku fighting frieza, ssj2 gohan KHH vs cells KHH, etc. So yes, I would say dbz is still special Btw I'm not trying to bash naruto, I've seen naruto and I don't think it's a bad series Edited by Ssj3vegito96, May 16 2014, 04:41 PM.

I've been a huge fan since its broadcast in the UK during the late 90's, and have pretty much watched the whole thing (at least once) every year. And now thanks to the new DVD's which are coming out, I can (and am) buy everything including GT and Dragon Ball! Over the past few years I've been collecting the books , from both DB and DBZ, as my love for this grows more and more. It is just amazing in my eyes, it practically defined my childhood, and taught me a few things also. Nothing is better than DBZ |

I don't understand how. DBZ is classic, with cool characters and amazing fights. It's got fantasy, sci fi, comedy, action, and contrary to popular belief, it does have SOME depth of plot. Not a lot, but it's there.
I fricken love YYH. if it wasn't for DBZ then I'd be a YYH fanboy. I have a Yusuke avatar about everywhere else online but here atm. (Also because I look like him) Edited by POOHEAD189, May 16 2014, 05:54 PM.

Its hard for me to see how people can honestly say DBZ is better than a lot of other animes like FMA. Mind you, I won't begrudge if you like it more, whether by personal feelings or Nostalgia but its clear that there are superior works. For me I love watching Sci-Fi B Movies...I love how corny they are and I can get some great entertainment from them. But there are movies out there that, despite the fact that I probably wouldn't enjoy them on a fundamental level (for example I don't think I could ever get into Casablanca or 2001: A Space Oddysey the way other people do) but I understand that these movies in terms of development, plot and effort are far superior. You look at FMA and Dragon Ball and you break it down and FMA is just superior, it's characterization, its plot development, its emotion, its flow. Arakawa obviously put in a lot more work into her manga than Toriyama did with his and its very noticeable. But if FMA isn't your kind of entertainment you may still enjoy DBZ more. |

I've watched FMA , I didn't believed that FMA was better than DBZ. But when I watched the whole series , it looked better than DBZ in general. |

I have to disagree. While FMA is definitely a good anime, just because its plot is a bit more involved doesn't make it better. Depends on your tastes really. Some people see DBZ being funnier with better action, and some see FMA with better plot and characters. And some see it vice versa.

Your wording is off. A deeper plot does NOT mean better. It just has a deep plot. I think. Dbz is better than FMA.Fma got deeper plot but its not fact it's better |

I'll rephrase it then...there's a lot more effort put into FMA than there is in Dragon Ball, there's a lot more effort put into the characters, the plot, the development of the characters and characterization and comes off as far better written story. Bleach (specifically post Soul Society Arc) suffers from this as well. It may be quite popular but its story telling, characterization and development can be very lackluster and Kubo obviously doesn't put in the same amount of effort that Arakawa does with her work. You can't compare the effort that Toriyama does with Dragon Ball to the effort Nasu does for the Fate/Stay Night visual novels. The former puts a lot less effort than Kinoko Nasu puts into his work and if you've read the Visual Novels, this is very easy to tell. There isn't even a comparison. Nasu takes his time writing his work and really spreads out the details. AT writes at the seat of his pants. Dragon Ball comes off as entertaining but incredibly rushed and messy at points because there's a lot less development going on. The Fate/Stay Night Visual Novel however is a material that a lot of development is put into. This is why there's a difference between something that's popular and something that's good. Being popular means that its enjoyed by people. Being good is a standard that can society gives to something and which can change over time. We have standards on work that we expect to be good. It's not what we want, its what we expect. For example we expect mangaka's to have good artwork so when One Piece (which to be blunt never bothered me that much) or HunterxHunter comes it can turn us off because it doesn't follow what we expect a good standard to be like. Its a simple point that, we expect standards and effort to be put into material. When this fails, that's when it becomes bad. Now you can have a popular object while still being bad. That's the joy of B-movies for people. It's entertaining and it reaches the "good" at being entertaining but it fails at being good on a fundamental level. In fact people like B-movies because they look at them in a different light. B-movies aren't supposed to be funny they're usually expected to be sad or scary or something. But if you watch them as the way they are, they lose their entertainment because the only thing you see is the negativity of it. That's the difference you have. Its the difference between the effort shown and unfortunately Dragon Ball doesn't have too much effort to it. |
