Ever notice about Budokai tournament?

Have you ever noticed that every time there's a Budokai, the venue gets a little bit bigger than it was previously? At first there are no seats and everyone has to look over each others shoulders. But by the time that the Buu saga comes around they have a massive stadium. I thought it was an interesting little touch.

Leve Feyenoord 1!

Wow... You're right. I checked it.

Heck the stadium in Mr. Satan's flashback from when he was fighting Spopovich had a stadium smaller then the Buu Saga tournament, and bugger then the 23rd tournament.
I never noticed it.

It became more and more popular for every time. Makes sense.

Well it became more popular after the Z fighters started participating, which means after the 21th budokai, otherwise if after every budokai the stadium was bigger then in 21th it should be more huge. And I've noticed it to, nice one Pelador.

Lol, TBH I didn't noticed that at all, and its not that obvious because the Budokais started becoming bigger after the 21th budokai when supernatural fights started to take place, before that the arenas were almost the same.

I'm sure I recall spotting differences in each of the Dragonball tournaments.

I'm supised hardly anyone other than the announcer guy can remember Goku, Piccolo, Krillin, and other Z-Fighters that participated in the Budokai's despite them being present for 3 Budokai's in a row.

Especially considering the crazy battles they always had. If that happened in real life then they'd have been all over the news. But I suppose in a world that still has dinosaurs and dogs can be president then it's probably not that big a deal that some people can fly.

I feel as if it started to become more commercial.
It gained social importance.
Lost ethical importance IMO.

I agree, the commercialism started with the 24th Budokai, probably with the new stadium and the hype of the return. The Tournament Announcer did not seem, to like that.

^Roga's right. The tournament announcer was one of the people who actually remembered what "good" matches were.

The stadium had to be rebuilt after Piccolo destroyed it, and by that time, it became a spectator event, not simply a gathering of "elites" to see who was the strongest like the 21st-23rd. Also worth mentioning is that the tournament gained popularity after the 21st (Goku's first one). This is the reason why it was changed from every 5 years to 3 years. After the 23rd, the spectators who wanted to watch these insane matches had increased as well.

So pretty much Piccolo destroying the stage and stadium, along with the final matches with Goku and the gang was the catalyst that lead to the massive stadium that we see in the Boo Arc.
Since Goku and the gang had scared all the good fighters off, no "good fighters" decided to join any of the tournaments past 23. This is the reason why lowly fighters like Mr. Satan could actually make it to the finals and win.

As for the flashback scene with Mr. Satan, that was filler.
In the manga, he also fought Jewel in the final round of the 24th (the one he won to become champion), not Spopavitch like the anime stated. This was also the one where they introduced the Junior division, because Videl was the first Jr. champion.

I'm pretty sure it was the same size in the 21st-23rd Budokais. It was then recreated many years later into the bigger arena, and I'd assume everyone noticed it got bigger since it's pointed out by the characters themselves.

I agree. It wasn't until the 24th and later that the stage itself was noticeably bigger.
