War..what is it good for?

Absolutely nothing, if you ask me. And I'll say it again.

"War, HOOH, what is it good for? Absolutely nothing!"

I've been doing a lot of thinking lately about the state of humanity. While at work, I had a discussion with my co worker about war. The conversation quickly got deep, and it really got me thinking.

Why do we want to kill each other so badly? Why are we so able, and so quick, to throw away human life so easily? Our conversation came to one conclusion, although it is represented through many facets, but one conclusion all the same:

We kill because we are different. Well, we are different in our minds, upbringings, and beliefs. But actually...aren't we all the same? Sure, there are many sub species of Homo Sapiens. African, Asian, Mongolian, Greek, Hebrew, British, French, you name it. We are all different, but actually, we are all the same. We are all human beings on this planet. We all came from the same place.

So why do we fight? Why is there no peace on this planet? I think I know the answer, and that answer is greed and fear.

Greed, because we see what another has, and we want it. We want it so badly, that we are willing to murder someone for it. But just murder? No, not just murder, we are willing to murder hundreds. Thousands. Millions? MILLIONS of people for things we want that they have. Greed controls this world. It controls our governments, it controls our foreign relations, it controls EVERYTHING. The desire for "more" and "stuff" and "money" has led a high majority of these wars.

Fear, because we fear that which we do not understand. My buddy and I were also talking about religion. I asked him "Why do you think the extremist Muslims hate Americans and Christians so much?" I think the answer is simple: because they were raised that way. They were born into a society that says "they are bad, we are good." And we were raised the same way. I was raised to think those "people" were bad people. Ad I grew older, I realized they are just shrouded in their religion and tradition just like I was. It's sad, honestly.

When you take a step back from your own humanity, your own traditions, your own upbringing, and actually just look at all the faces of all the thousands of races and peoples on this planet, you realize we are actually..all on the same team. We are all human beings that are on this Earth, and for all we know..we are the only ones. We are all trying to make it. I don't see why we have to have so much hate and murder and war and greed on this planet. But it controls us, it consumes our lifestyles. Whether your want to admit it or not, war, hate, lust, and greed consume all of us daily. We hate them because they hate us. They hate us because we hate them. We hate them because our religion tells us to. They hate us because their religion tells them to. Do you realize that some people want to KILL others and END their LIFE because they were born in a different place or think a different god created the world?

It's..it's absurd! It's absolutely absurd! The way we have lived for thousands of years it may be, but that doesn't make it right! We CAN all coexist; we CAN all "get along"! It's possible.

How? Put down your fear. Lay aside your greed. And start loving one another like the human beings that BOTH OF YOU ARE. You have the same DNA flowing through your veins. The only difference is what you were taught being raised.

Thoughts? Discussions? Conjectures? Rebuttals?

Greetings. I will be your waifu this season.

Well I see what you're saying but in a split up world, war is good.

If big country #1 attacks little country #1 then big country #2 shouldn't stand for that, no country should, like bullies in a playground all the kids there could beat them up, so war is necessary to cut down the military might of countries that threaten to take over others.

It's also good for stopping us overpopulating the planet but that's about it.

Ideally though one country should take over and unite the world, we're all humans the idea of a country is just stupid it just fosters hatred towards other countries and makes them greedy to have what they don't need.
There's enough food to feed the world but many countries have far more than they need where others have almost nothing, a world unified by an empire would be good as it could be distributed properly.

In this day and age though there's too many nuclear weapons for that to be possible.

Another good thing about previous wars is the inventions they caused to be made a lot of the stuff we use today wouldn't be around if the necessity for people to make them wasn't around back in the day.
I don't know who said it but "Necessity is the mother of invention" I think the quote goes.
So a lot of good has come from that there were tons of medical breakthroughs during the wars at least.

Religion is the most ridiculous reason to start wars I agree but sometimes war in general is necessary powerful countries have a responsibility to protect weak ones.
Though stealing their land and oil is a d*** move...

well, without war, there would be extensive slavery in the southern half of the U.S. southerners are too stubborn to change unless forced, so war was literally the only way to stop that.

war was necessary to throw off the yoke of british oppression.

war stopped the attempted genocide of american immigrants in mexican controlled texas.

so yeah, war is sometimes necessary, and can have good results.
list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.

for those that blindly follow word of god

I think the key difference is A) you are saying that war is necessary simply because the human condition demands it, which I do not agree with. I think the human condition is seeded in choice, and we all have the choice to not want to murder each other and rape each other and make each other slaves. The end doesn't justify the means here; war is good because we are also keen on enslaving the human race, that isn't really the point.

and B) those are retaliations to already awful things. Growing up a muslim and thinking "I want to kill every american/Christian!" =! retaliating against the slavery of a specific race of people.

yes, in that sense, war is necessary, but see A as to why both aren't.
