DC canon questions

I have a few questions about DC canon

How does it work? What is canon in DC?

Some examples: DC animated universe, are those shows canon, non canon, or do they have their own canon?

How do shows like smallville and arrow fit in the canon? Are they also their own canon?

In the comics, are the current comics canon and everything before the last reboot aren't canon anymore?

The way I see it and maybe I'm wrong is that only the comic books are canon. Except for crossovers such as Marvel vs DC, Batman vs Predator, Superman vs Aliens ect.

The new DC comics are canon.

Currently The New 52 issues (The ones that started to release in 2011) are canon since the past before that was pretty much retconned because of issues regarding storytelling being limited by character abilities be it overabundance or lack thereof or just huge differences that make it impossible lest you severely one's abilities. New 52 was basically the antidote to that, or so I hear. Apparently though New 52 Superman is above Post Crisis seeing as how he flew straight through a red sun and survived.

The New 52 are the current "main" canon.

The adaptations are only canon to their own universes. The DCAU, for example has it's own canon, and so does Smallville, Arrow, etc..

I find them really entertaining...I think they have their own canon

Yeah I think all the Bruce Timm stuff is canon to his own work. For instance his cartoons, Batman: the animated series, Superman, Batman Beyond and The Justice League are all in the same universe.
