How did Goku achieve SSJ3

How did Goku achieve SSJ3; The mechanics of SSJ3

I'm also going to toss in a blasphemous claim, but to be entirely honest, there's also no evidence of even Super Saiyan needing an emotional catalyst for the initial ascension, at least not with everyone. Evidence to this is that we actually see Gohan's initial ascension in the manga, and he doesn't appear angry at all. It's almost as if the physical process itself was simply taught to him by Goku. Gohan also mentions later during his training for the Tenkaichi Budokai that he "learned" it from Goku, not that it simply happened one day during their training. It would also explain why most people see it as unlikely of the boys having the same emotional distress as the adults whenever it was that they first transformed. Rage is simply a shortcut to a near inevitability.

Vegeta transformed into SSJ for the first time through frustration (although, bordering on rage). I doubt Goku was ever mad in Other World, so it couldn't have been rage that drove him to SSJ2 and SSJ3. I'd imagine it's through hard training, knowing how it goes the first time around (read SSJ)

Rage is simply a shortcut to a near inevitability. I agree, and that does indeed seem to be the case. However, it doesn't seem to be a requirement 100% of the time. My belief is that initial SSJ transformations become more easily accessible the stronger you become. If you're "weak", you would require an extreme rage to turn SSJ (for example your best friend explodifying). If you're "semi-strong", you would require a decent amount of emotion... but nothing as extreme as the example above. If you're "strong", you could simply discover the technique by accident, through training, or through mild emotional stress. The same could be said about SSJ2 and SSJ3... but obviously the power requirement/plateau's would be higher. ... or something like that (haven't slept for a while... so things might seem clearer in my mind than I'm managing to type/explain)

Safari Favourite Manga Bleach	I think that anger was needed initially for the the transformation. Keep in mind that no one knew of SSJ and had used it in a long time. Since Goku achieved it and learned how to control the transformation, he could better describe it and explain it to Gohan on how to achieve it for instance how he told him that it is not about raising his Ki andt comes in a response to a need. Gohan's transformation was not triggered by anger and rage per say, rather, it was his inability to protect his loved ones over the years and lack of power and helplessness. It was this what pushed him over the edge and allowed him transform, as well as Goku's Kamehameha wave, which would have blow into pieces.

We see his transformation in the manga.
