Super Saiyan among Super Saiyans

I just re-saw this movie yesterday for the first time in years; my younger brother hadn't seen it. I was reminded how great this movie was. Almost a decade later, and it is still one of the best superhero movies IMO. One thing kind of bugs me though. Spider-Man has super strength. Shouldn't he be able to KO Doc Ock with some headshot punches since Ock's super strength only is in his mechanical arms and not himself? Do the arms grant him some sort of resilience? What's going on there? |

Doc Ock has no kind of enhanced durability in the movie, or at least it wasn't mentioned. Spider-Man 2 was great, but it wasn't devoid of plotholes. One could argue that Spider-Man didn't put enough strenght into his punches so he wouldn't kill Otto, but he should at least try to knock him out. Edited by Topographic Oceans, Apr 6 2014, 02:49 PM.

Yeah see, this is what I was thinking during the fight. There were instances in which Spider-Man punched Ock in the face. Since he has super strength and Ock has no superhuman durability, I'm thinking to myself "How is he not knocked out" |

The real question is why didn't Spider man just kill him and wanted to hold back instead if that was the case.

Well because Doc is/was his friend he's a hero not a murderer. But yeah a gut punch should have done the job Spidey can lift cars for crying out loud. And can hold his web while the full force and weight of a running train pulls at them he should easily have pulled it off. Never does it say that the Doc has enhanced reflexes either. I have mixed feelings about the movie, I liked how he lost his powers and things like that and the actor who played Doc Oc was superb...but he shouldn't have been so much trouble to beat in the cartoons and whatever else unless he's with the whole Sinister Six he's usually just one-shotted. Why couldn't he completely cover him in web either? He couldn't really pull it off faster than it would be on and if he used the arms to rip it off they'd get webbed up too. |

Although it's mostly just an unaddressed plot hole, I have a small theory about this. The mechanical arms were connected to Ock's spinal cord, his central nervous system. Perhaps the arms' artificial intelligence augmented his bodily defenses, allowing for a stronger durability..... Honestly, that's the best I got and even then, it's still not enough to explain how Spider-Man's super strength wasn't enough to knock him out |

I guess that's as decent as it will ever get, between that and Spidey holding back due to the Doc being a friend perhaps he could have survived. We never see his bare chest do we? Maybe his insides were fairly messed up but he could take it due to that pain resistance, mechanical arms are what he uses for movement mostly anyway. Doesn't explain taking hits to the head though
