Japanese; They tend to portray the personalities more accurately.

It's probably a tie of the Japanese version, Funi dub, and Kai. I like them all equally pretty much.

Tfs shouldn't be on the list. Anyways Korean Champ and Tooniverse dub and Korean Kai.

Japanese and Kai for acting, funimation when I want to feel at home. :)

Japanese is by far the best. Though it should be noted that the english Kai dub is quite respectable.

I haven't really seen a lot of the japanese sub, but it's definitely the best. Funi and Kai dubs are pretty good too.

For Kai: FUNimation's English dub.
For everything else: The original Japanese, by a long shot.

The Japanese dub is the best, for sure. The casting comes across as a bit odd sometimes, but it adds to it's charm. Dragon Ball is one of the cases were nobody was able to do it better than the original.

As far as english dubs go, I don't like the original very much, but Kai's dub is great. It learned when to be quiet and the actors finally matured in their roles.

I'll also mention my country's dub, and not only for reasons of nostalgia (tough nostalgia surely plays a big part). It was almost 100% faithful to the original (save some dumb errors in the original DB) and didn't feel the need to make arbitrary changes to the script in order to make it succesful.

Overall, I would have to say the Funimation dub. Ocean was good for their first run.

IMO, I don't think the Japanese version deserves the godly praise that it gets really. Don't get me wrong, a lot of the things in the dub were great like Vegeta and Piccolo's voices but their were things that were just completely odd. And yeah, i'm going to be the 9001th person to say I didn't like Adult Goku being voiced by a woman. That's just me I guess.

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!"

I like different aspects of different dubs, therefore can't really rate any one above the other. Although, I will say that over-all, I tend to prefer more Ocean VAs over anyone else.

In my humble opinion:
*Masako Nozawa definitely does the best Goku. She just captures his personality better than Sean Schemmel does considering he's simple a stupid, not heroic and manly like Schemmel tries to make him sound. The "Ally to Good" speech may be epic, but it's not Goku.

*Brian Drummond is the best Vegeta. He captures Vegeta's inner rage perfectly, while Chris Sabat is better for Vegeta later in the series when he's calmed down a bit.

*LittleKuriboh (TFS) is the best Freeza. He makes him sound like a regal and an arrogant a**hole midget, even if his lines are intended to be comedic. It's perfect. Chris Ayers (Kai) did a pretty good job as well.

*Scott McNeil is the best Piccolo. He captures Piccolo's demonic nature perfectly.

*I don't know the actor, but the whoever played King Kai in the Ocean dub was pretty good as well.

*Chuck Huber as Garlic Jr. was really good. Chuck Huber is one of my favorite FUNI VAs. Bill Townsley as Garlic Jr. in the Ocean Dub was pretty good.

*Masako Nozawa and Colleen Clinkenbeard tie as young Gohan. Nozawa captured his innocence, while Clinkenbeard (unlike Nadonly) actually made him sound like a humble kid, not a chain-smoking midget. Seffron Hederson (Ocean) did a pretty good job too, and wasn't that bad when he was re-cast as Goku for the first 13 episodes of Dragon Ball.

*Chris Rager is the perfect Mr. Satan because he made him sound like an professional wrestler or showman.

*Kent Williams as Dr. Gero was pretty good. Didn't really like any of his other VAs.

*I don't know the actor's name, but I really enjoyed FUNI's original VA for Android 19.

*Eric Vale was the best Trunks in my opinion.

*Travis Willingham was a pretty good Cell. Dameon Clark was also pretty good back when FUNI first dubbed the Cell Saga.

*TFS Popo is just epic.

Funi's Kai dub or the original Japanese with subs.

Edit: Ocean's VA for Vegeta.
