What are your thoughts on prostitution? Should it be legal or not? |

Sure, why not? A person can do whatever he or she wants with their body. |

Prostitution is legal here. Soliciting is another matter. I have no issue with it personally. I'd rather there was more legislation around it to protect people. But the people involved generally know the risks involved. |

There's no reason for it to be illegal, the stigma around it does mean that there are people who are forced into doing that and people being uncomfortable with paying for sex. So long as both parties are consenting adults, then it shouldn't matter, it should be done in a safe manner. |

Rogue just said everything I wanted to. Getitgurl. If you enjoy sex, practise safely, and have a clientele, go for it. |

I have no problem with it so long as people keep clean of course. Though what about taxing? Should you have to apply somewhere for it? Because it's basically like being part of undeclared workforce you could be on Job Seekers Allowance and still be making thousands a month from being a prostitute without giving anything back to the government. Not sure how it would go down but if they could find a way to tax it and made it so that they have to get a medical check up every month or so perhaps the stigma would die down a bit. In that case people would have the peace of mind that if someone is a prostitute it's both a legal and safe profession. |

Selling is legal, and sex is legal... so why isn't selling sex legal? Good Joke from George Carlin. People should be able to do what the want, and it's not like politicians don't get their carrot waxed by a hooker every once in a while. However, now most of the higher class ones prefer to be called "escorts" or "professional companions". To be honest, it's a prostitute who gives you the girlfriend experience. |

I don't get why paying tax is such a big deal. We don't have to tax everything. Magazines don't even have tax.

you make an income, you pay a tax. it's a pretty simple system. if you don't pay the taxes that pay for the police, fire department, public schools, roads, public legal defense, and any number of other services provided by the state, you shouldn't take advantage of those services. the government doesn't have taxes just for the hell of it. they need that money to ensure you have anything resembling a decent life, and to protect your right to complain about those taxes. so yeah, prostitutes should be taxed like any other (business owners or employees, depending on the system of prostitution they're working under). as for how to tax them, treat it just like tips (the government assumes you make x amount of tips per hour worked, and then taxes you based on hours worked.) require permits for prostitution, just like you need permits to run a restaurant. have a similar system of paperwork, and there you go. |

I think what could work is like some kind of level to it like if you only make say £300 a month it works like being in a part time job with no tax and gradually you can apply to being with different firms and charge more but pay tax. Obviously it would be a bit of a hassle for prostitutes but hey it beats going to jail or being owned by a pimp doesn't it? Never understood the whole "escort" thing...still a prostitute, if they're legal why not the others? |

where escorts are legal (and they aren't everywhere), the process is essentially the same as for a porn star. they aren't technically being paid for the sex, they are paid for the date, or in the case of porn stars, they are paid to be filmed, not to have sex. |

I always wondered if the old "I wasn't having sex with a prostitute, we were filming a porno" joke from Family Guy would be applicable in an actual situation...Oh well, not going to dwell on that question. As far as I'm concerned, Prostitutes are much like Entrepenuer (Probably spelled that wrong.) They're just selling a service that by all means isn't anything akin to Drugs or Gang activity (Had to deal with a couple of people who likened prostitution to that.) It should be legalised and it should be regulated and taxed. |

I guess there's no laws prohibiting it but it's just...well..not right. I don't know how to explain it properly but having intercourse with random people for money just doesn't sound right. Then again, we live in a 21st century world were morals don't mean jack so meh, I can't stop anyone from doing it. My 2 cents really. |

Care to elaborate on why it is "not right?" What is the difference between right and wrong when it comes to two consenting adults having sex? Is it just dirty to you? Edited by Doggo Champion 2k17, Mar 22 2014, 09:23 PM.
