Pretty sure Sidious thought Anakin the force choke at least. There were probably other things aswell, but nothing I could say. |

Honestly, I don't think Sidious taught Anakin the Force Choke in that short time. He may have, but that is not a really a hard technique to learn. Anakin used it against an enemy when he was a Jedi. Therefore, it can go either way for me. Thread: Sure he taught him. That is the reason why Vader allowed himself to remain under control anyway so he could learn all he could before it was his time to kill his master and take the throne as the Dark Lord of the Sith. Vader used a common Sith technique against Luke in the Empire Strikes Back. Sidious at least had some part in him using that. I'm pretty sure Vader knew Force Lightning too, but he could use it because of his suit restricting him from doing so. |

I reckon force choke is not sith only technique as it was easily performed by Luke in ROTJ |

Anakin used a force choke on Padme when he went nuts remember. All it is is using the force to grab someone's throat. Hardly a technique that only a sith would know. I might be making this up but I think I remember reading somewhere that the vader suit limited Anakin's force powers. So he probably didn't learn that much from Sidious. |

I thought it was a psychological thing for why Vader's abilities diminished. As for Force Lightning I thought Vader couldn't do it because using it would short out his suit. |

The suit made it so Anakin was unable to realize his full potential. Without the life-threatening injuries sustained on Mustafar, Anakin would have become more powerful than Sidious. Anakin knew Force Choke before anything Sidious taught him. He used it against Padme. Although video games cast this as a Dark Side technique, any Force-user knows. It is the same thing as when you use the Force to move something only in a choking motion. As for whether he was taught anything... a long-standing personal theory of mine is that although Vader could have learnt how to do Force Lightning, the fact that he didn't was a sign that he was not fully lost to the Dark Side as Luke and Padme believed Basically, Vader is stuck with Sidious. He owns the galaxy, and he knows what fate rebellion holds; he delivered it personally to many Jedi. Besides, we don't know exactly what's going on psychologically for Vader. In the prequels, he considered Sidious as a friend. Whether this continued into the originals is up to speculation |

Before seeing the prequels, I always interpreted Vader's and Sidious' relationship to be somewhat friendly, especially in the early parts of RotJ. Though EU material suggested more of a fine balance where Sidious would be all friendly with Vader, but had no qualms about cracking the whip on Vader as needed. |

I agree with you. The only reason I say it's up to speculation is because there's still not a lot from which to infer. The early parts of ROTJ -- the dialogue between Sidious and Vader when they are discussing how to bring in Luke -- seem to suggest they are somewhat friends. However, the later parts of ROTJ -- the dialogue between Luke and Vader in transit to the Death Star and in the throne room -- seem to, in a way, contradict this by conveying that Vader is stuck in the Dark Side, that he has to serve his master |

Maybe Vader was plotting the entire time. Perhaps since his encounter with Luke on the Cloud Planet. I smell what y'all are steppin' in, and I may have to end up agreeing... but right now I think Vader was more of playing the Emperor for his own plans. I think some of that is explained in one of the novels, but I'm not sure how seriously it should be taken. Could he have been plottin'? |

It's certainly a possibility but the movies, the original source, do not support it that well. The line in Empire Strikes Back: "We can rule the galaxy as father and son" seems to fit with your theory. However, the lines in Return of Jedi show that this was a ploy to get him to join: [Vader]: "I see you have constructed your own lightsaber. Your skills are complete. Indeed you are powerful as the Emperor had foreseen." [Luke]: "I know there is still good in you. The Emperor has not driven it out of you fully." [Vader]: "Obi-wan once thought as you. You don't know the power of the Dark Side. I must obey my master." ^^ Vader here acknowledges that Luke is considerably powerful, yet he does not say anything about overpowering the Emperor together. In fact, he seems to suggest that somehow he is literally bound to obey his master's bidding. |

I think Vader was quite torn with Sideous. On one hand, he hated him for all he was worth, on the other he was the only thing left from his past and the closest thing he had to a friend (as weird as that sounds considering they're both Sith). Vader was already pretty much a Jedi master so I think Sideous' education of him would've been minimal. Since Vader had different constraints than Sideous (big bulky armour, susceptibility to lightning etc.), I think he learnt the majority of his powers in the field. Like with his refurbished lightsaber style. Actually, just thinking of his powers like Kinetite, it's pretty much built for him as it wouldn't damage his armour yet still sorta goes with lightning. I do think he knew how to do force lightning though, as he was relatively adept at manipulating / absorbing / redirecting it. |

At first Sidious wanted to use Vader and finally when the time came Sidious figured he would be old and weak anyway when the Chosen One was ready to kill him but when Vader is injured Sidious sees him as a tool. Vader and Sidious are friends when it suits each other but as the sith's main goal is to betray one another they will do so in a heart beat. Sidious had plans to teach Vader but once he was confined to the suit he basically just became as long as you do what I say your fine. |
