Sagas VS Arcs?

How would you define the two? For me, a Arc is a major storyline over a period of time whereas a saga is a subdivision of an arc, usually focusing on a particular event in the arc.

I would group DBZ's chain of events like this

Saiyan Arc
Raditz Saga: Raditz's arrival to the Saiyan's arrival
Nappa Saga: Vegta/Nappa's arrival to Vegeta killing Nappa
Vegeta Saga: Goku VS Vegeta Fight to the end of the arc

Frieza Arc
Namek Saga: Gohan/Krillin/Bulma's arrival on Namek to the Ginyu Force's arrival
Ginyu Saga: All of the Ginyu Force fights to Frieza confronting Vegeta/Gohan/Krillin
Frieza Saga: All of the Frieza fights to the end of the arc

Cell Arc
Trunks Saga: Mecha Frieza's arrival to the part were all the Z-Fighters begin their training.
Android Saga: From 19/20's introduction to the end of the Vegeta VS 18 fight.
Imperfect Cell Saga: Piccolo merging with Kami to Cell absorbing 17
Perfect Cell Saga: Tien using the Kihiko on Cell to Cell defeating both Vegeta/Trunks and announcing the Cell Games
Cell Games Saga: Goku and Gohan coming out of the RoSaT to the end of the arc.

Buu Arc
Great Saiyaman Saga: From Gohan starting High School to thd Z-Fighters preparing for the 25th Budokai Tenkachi
World Tournament Saga: From the start of the Kids division to the Z-Fighters pursuing Spopovitch/Yamu
Babidi Saga: Dabura turning Piccolo/Krillin to stone to Majin Vegeta's introduction
Majin Buu Saga: From the Goku/Majin Vegeta fight to Super Buu's formation
Fusion Saga: From Super Buu arriving on the lookout to Kid Buu's introduction
Kid Buu Saga: From Kid Buu blowing up Earth to Goku and Uub setting out to train together

I think of a saga as a longer detailed description of a story, whereas an arc generally has a central theme or motif to focus on. That being said, I think they're both fluid enough words to use interchangeably.

However if I had to chose I'd have saga's enveloping multiple arcs, pretty much the opposite of what you have

You pretty much do it the FUNimation way, I see. I take a much broader approach and use the three main villains as the arc centers.

Freeza arc - Raditz through Freeza's defeat on Namek. "Saiyan/Namek/Freeza" could be the sagas in there.
Cell arc - Trunks' arrival to Cell's death. "Android/Semi-Perfect/Cell Games" could be sagas.
Boo arc - 7 year time skip to the end of the manga. "Great Saiyaman/25th TB/Majin Boo/Fusion/Pure Boo/28th TB" could all be sagas in this mess.

The thing is, I group Arcs as what the major focus overall was in the series of events while a Saga focus's on what the problem was at that time. (i.e. The Cell Arc was about defeating Cell as a whole but the Android Saga primarly focused on the Z-Fighters stopping the Andriods).

FUNimation had the right idea with their grouping though they should have included the 4 arcs as well.

Freeza Arc
Jinzoningen Arc
Buu Arc

I hate the use of the word "saga" when talking about Dragon Ball.

I know but like I said before, I like to use arcs as a way of classifying a major series of events and a saga to classify a particular event in the series of events.

I would do the opposite of you, Namek Saga, Android Saga instead of Namek arc.. But then i realized how stupid it is to say Raditz saga, Nappa Saga, Dr Gero Saga... Im torn between the options :( Im just going to call everything a saga
