I figured some of you guys would be into this.

Back in the day, these were the only way to see past what was being shown on cartoon network, which at the time was like half the Freeza saga over and over & then the whole Freeza Saga over and over again..

These were in Japanese had cussing and blood, they were the s***.. I know they hold a place in alot of oldschool fans heart..

I converted all my old Fansubs to a lossless digital format and made this

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMLgPnAY8fk what it looks like on a 40 inch T.V

If you or anyone you know still has any of theirs let me know, I would like to do the whole series, PM me for details

Well, I predate you just a bit, they were around long before CN even aired DBZ (in the mid 90's). DBZ was originally syndicated on network TV with the first Ocean Dub (that is on the Rock the Dragon set). I'm glad to see people are still interested in this stuff, though. :yay: If you're interested in learning more about it, this page is very helpful: http://animepast.net/Time_Capsule/Fansubs/The_History_of_Dragonball_Fansub_Tapes/

Also, a lot of that cussing was due to bad translations. You're referring in particular to the group Anime Lab's tapes, I believe: http://animepast.net/Time_Capsule/Fansubs/The_History_of_Dragonball_Fansub_Tapes/Fansubbers/Anime_Labs/Crazy_Translations/

The Anime Past site has a good description of why you shouldn't trust these, basically those guys loved punking people with their subs:

Firstly, we can ask the question, "why?" I can't say for certain, but the answer to this is, I think, just because they felt like it. I really don't think that there has to be any deep reason here. It's the same sort of reason that they liked to put silly messages in the eyecatches, or when they changed their name to Zero Tolerance, claiming that Anime Labs was dead, in response to what Travis Drake did. Now, were they just having fun, or were they having fun and at the same time specifically enjoying thinking that people will think that Vegeta really is saying "You candy-a$$ fa***t," and if so, to what extent? This, I cannot comment on.

EDIT: Also, I made a thread filling in some gaps that the Anime Past site doesn't (it's oriented more to older fans and sort of expects you to know a lot of this stuff already) - http://dbzf.co.uk/topic/8439601/1/#new

Ahh very interesting, I actually read that thread before just while looking things up, it was a great read.. I even linked it on my page if thats ok with you

http://dragonballfansub.nfshost.com/index.html

Anime Past actually motivated me to do the DVD, I had a bunch of my old tapes and alot of people wanted to see them so I went for it. Then it snowballed into wtf it is now lol..

I really wish I could watch the whole series with Anime Labs subs..

I was like 15 or 16 when I first saw them, I had no idea they were wrong. I just thought DBZ was a hardcore Anime and these Americans have no idea what they are missing out on.. I loved thats why I still have after 10 years.. Check my site out you will get a kick out of it
