Kai was released twice. What are the differences between them?

I thought it was just widescreen and full screen. :/

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here! This is the war room!"

They just look like combo packs from two "Parts", to me. The new release calls these newer combined packs "Seasons" and not "Parts" like the original release that FUNI did.
The original releases had only 2 discs, while these newer sets have 4. I assume they simply consolidated two "Parts", and called them "Seasons" to make it cheaper for people.

The cover art is also slightly different as well. On the newer ones, there's a holograhic Shenron behind the main art piece. The originals didn't have this.

The aspect ratio on both are the same from the product specs, so I don't think you'll need to worry about it being in widescreen.

Does the earlier collection have the music of Kenji?

EDIT: I looked it up; after a while of searching, parts 1-4 have Yamamoto's composition while the latter four parts, and the seasons collection, are composed by Kikuche.

Shoot, I should have realized that before purchasing the seasons. Regardless of Kenji's ethics and legal issues, I still preferred that soundtrack. Should have purchased the parts :/

Here's the deal...

FUNimation originally released Kai in the 13-episode "Part" sets, on both DVD and Blu-ray. There were a total of four of them for the Saiyans-Freeza arc, and then another four for the Androids-Cell arc.

The first four, for Raditz through Freeza, originally had the Yamamoto score. But after the plagiarism scandal, they were re-released with the original DBZ Kikuchi score as a replacement instead. The Cell-arc sets never had a Yamamoto-score version.

Later, FUNimation released 26-episode "Season" sets, with 2 for each major arc. This was well after the Yamamoto scandal, so I'm almost certain the seasons never had the Yamamoto score - only the replacement Kikuchi one.

Damn, how do I tell if they have Yamamoto or Kikuchi? I'm looking on Amazon, by the way.

I'm not sure if there's any good way to tell other than popping 'em in and seeing what plays.

That's rather disappointing. I could essentially try out 15 different purchases before finding the "right" one. Damn it all.

Yeah, that really makes a large difference to me. I will just have to buy it through ebay and ask each shipper which music composition is on the part set. Frustrating.

The parts sets where there are 8 sets are the ones with the Yamamoto score.
