In the other anime's I've seen, they're all in school uniforms. When we see gohan go to school how come everyone is in casual clothes? |

Because Dragon Ball isn't set in any version of real-world Japan, like many other series are. |

Satan City and Orange Star High seems to have a mostly western inspired culture attached to it. This isn't the only town that's like that in Dragon World. I assume that Toriyama was going for a "western public school" feel, as it seems that almost all his cities have a huge western-inspired culture. For example, West City is blatantly western culture-based, and it makes sense because it's called "West City", or the "Western Capital". Everything in West City is in English, Bulma's shirt actually says "Bulma" when we first meet her, and even Vegeta starts giving English names to his attacks after he starts living at Capsule Corp. Future Trunks seems to have Western-like clothes, and even Chibi Trunks wears western styled boots. Edited by Ketchup Revenge, Feb 27 2014, 03:22 AM.

Maybe Toriyama hates uniforms as much as most people do. But yeah, that makes sense too ^^ |

Also easier to differentiate between characters if they're not all wearing the same clothing. |

Well, it was the late 80's/early 90's, where anime as a whole had more civilian clothing at least shown. I'm not sure if people fetishized the uniforms the way they do now, as a symbol of youth and cuteness. |

Imagine Videl...in fan-service uniforms or Gohan with his shirt off type of School uniform ![]() Not that....the nasty fan-service thoughts are over... I picture that it's based on cities that Toriyama thinks of when he thinks of the West. Hence WEST city. Get it? West...."West City"....no? Well then... |
