A Hockey Question

It truly was a Shawshank redemption

There's a hockey game from the Winter Olympics on the TV, and I was wondering: is there a weight limit for the goalies? Because the goal is pretty small, and it doesn't look like the goalies have to move much, so couldn't they just put a massively overweight person in goal to cover up the entire goal?

This sounds like a joke topic, but I'm completely serious. It just seems like if there isn't a weight limit, that this is an option team's can take.

The thing you may not remember is how damned FAST the puck moves. Having an agile and quick goalie is more important than having a meat shield, because not every goal is one that can be stopped flat on your skates.

If the goalie covers the entire goal, he doesn't have to save the puck. He can just stand there. I think that's Mitas' thought.

That is fair, but there is always a place to score. Supposing we had someone who could cover the goal by merely standing on their skates, there is a still a gap near the ice due to being raised up on their skates. Fair?

well goalies are expected to leave the nets in a variety of different situations

- if theres a loose puck and they can get to it ; some goalies are expected to play it, to help the team

- in cases of a powerplay about to occur or near the end of the game they are supposed to leave for the bench for an extra attacker

as well as like mentioned u can always find room to score, there are goalies that are like 6'7 or 6'5 and cover tons of space

but if there was ever a goalie so big, they can always just jam the puck in the net after a few wacks

so there are a lot of reason why a huge goalie is not a good thing

Every sport you pretty much have to be athletically gifted. First of all, I doubt someone of that size has enough power to stand still and take all those hits.

well i agree for the most
golf and baseball are good examples of sports where u dont have to particularity healthy or fit
golf u dont have to cause ur not running around, u just need to be able to swing for set time and be able to endure it
thats why u will somtimes see big people and even people with big guts on the golf course

as for baseball theres people like cc sabathia who are huge but since hes pitching he doesnt need to have any endurance cept in throwing pitches, and some people who are at bat are big too but some can hit well so its fine if they cant really steal bases or run fast

and also football but thats different cause it requires u to be big essentially but they train hard as well so it works out

but yeah sports like hockey, tennis, squash ect. u have to be really fit
