How many of you would think it's cool to get paid being mods?

Just imagine that you can make some money by being mods on this site and watching everybody abiding to the rules on here. Any of you think it would be cool?

I bet a lot of people would want to be mods right away.

It sounds great in theory. The only problem is that the funds have to come from somewhere. As far as I know, donations primarily go towards running the site, buying things like ZetaBoards Premium. And in my opinion, we are just here to help make the forum a better place, not to get paid. Just my thoughts.

Sure I'll take money!

Seriously though, this is just an internet forum, not some company. We aren't employees lol.

I can get my money from somewhere else. This site is great and for fun, I don't consider it work.

Don't get me wrong, I take my position seriously. I'm just merely pointing out what Yuno said.

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

I doubt we would have enough donations for that, then comes the whole currency transitioning problem and the fact that I think a lot of people would shy away from donating or just be flat out pissed if we put something like this in.

I remember discussing this a couple of years ago, a staff suggested it. We were lukewarm towards it but I remember fervently denying the idea and ultimately nothing came of it.

If we had quite a surplus of donations it could be considerable but for that to happen the forum would need to be a lot more active, and it's already pretty active and strong as it is. We would need real big numbers of people. This would either thin out our resources compromising our ability to Moderate due to the huge population, or we would add to the staff team to cover it. Which would mean the payments get cut down even further and we would actually have significant responsibilitg here. No, I have no problem doing it for free. It makes it that much easier to lawl at people who complain about our job, as all it does is make it so you can't get away with much s*** and are obligated to be unbiased and treated differently by members. Not to mention all the good work we do individually rarely is noticed.

We would also have to become a registered business if that was the case, then invest in stuff like a postal address, but other than a forum, we don't have much to offer so a business wouldn't make much sense. Moderators do their work voluntarily and there seems to be people always willing to do the work.

I like this idea. Rogue instate it immediately and "grandfather" me into the retirement plan that is included in the package. I'll expect my £300 weekly salary in the mail by February 1st, continuing indefinitely until I die.

Some forums do pay their mods and it's in the name of seeking unbias people who are there to do a job. If you're paying, you can demand a higher standard and commitment level.

Not that you guys aren't. but it's more for forums who need that extra level of control. Usually because they're a business.

I'm a mod on a forum that, currently, I look at less than this one. Ops? But I'll go through fazes of interest.

Even if there were the funds to do it, it would probably ruin most forums like this one.

Yeah, sure, right after I siphon off the majority of funds for myself and bankrupt the forum.

I remember all of my college teammates asking me if I got paid for moderating since I spend so much time doing it, haha. It was just too bad that I had to tell them no.

I wouldn't mind a check every month, though. We should look into that. At least pay me, anyway.

Sure, £5 per month, then add Rogue tax and you are -£1 a month.

Thanks!

The thing which wages is it often tries to get mods to work to a certain standard / maintain interest or there is some monetary income to the site itself and unfortunately we offer none of those :P

We have almost never (I can think of 1 off the top of my head?) had anyone who turned down a moderator position and for the most part have all done an incredible job.

Closing this now though so feel free to PM with me if you wish to discuss this further as i'm the one who runs the money side of things ;)
