| Shouldn't Removing a Tail Cause Permanent Spinal Damage?; I mean ripping it out, not cutting it off | |

Just thought about this; though I'm unfamiliar with Saiyan anatomy and can only assume that there will be differences, pulling a tail is not a good thing. In cats and dogs, it can lead to serious spine problems, even destruction of their nervous systems. I presume the same goes for primates with prehensile tails. So pulling out Goku and Gohans' tails... kinda rash. Coulda killed 'em in any more scientific show. Luckily, this is Dragon Ball, where the epitome of science is putting a house inside of a tiny capsule and where humans with earthly cybernetics are 10x stronger than demi-god aliens with extraterrestrial cybernetics, so... The saiyan tails don't make sense at all... None of the great apes have tails. Well, we have vestigial ones, a few bones fused together that curve inward... ![]() So a tail coming out of the lower back, above the buttocks, makes absolutely no sense. Humans (and other higher primates) are unusual amongst animals because we have a HUGE BUTT to power walking upright and for sitting lazily on. So, whilst where the tail protrudes on a dog or lesser primate like a monkey looks normal, if we had extended tails, they'd literally be coming out between our butt cheeks. That would chafe like a b***!! ![]() So, the only rational explanation is that saiyan tails aren't really tails, they're a completely separate appendage. Alongated vertebrae? I don't know. It makes no sense it's fantasy. All we know if that they really hurt them and they must get in the way else they wouldn't wrap them round their waist. |

i don't think saiyan tails are connected to the spine. they are placed wrong, for one thing. if they are separate from the spine, then there is no reason pulling one would damage the spine. |

list of canon sources: the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga. list of non canon sources: everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality. for those that blindly follow word of god | |

Maybe when the Saiyan's tail is pulled out or cut it's pulled out or cut right at its area before it goes inside his body and enough to where it doesn't, notice that we still see the stub in pull and cut situations? They don't seem to pull the entire thing; its either pulled or cut at a certain part, leaving the rest inside that's attached to its spine or whatever. |

Actually, in all cases where humans have tails, they tend to form just about wherever; some between the cheeks, some where a Saiyan's would be... hell, there are some on the butt cheeks! Maybe we're so evolutionarily distant from having tails that our body doesn't know what to do with one! I could be wrong, because I'm no expert, but this probably shows a "pseudotail". It's not made from the same structures that created tails in our ancestors (now the coccyx). It's just a lump of tissue pertruding from the body, it could be anywhere. Quick google... http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/6373560 http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3263034/ " Pseudotails are varied lesions having in common a lumbosacral protrusion and a superficial resemblance to persistent vestigial tails." " Only one case has been reported with vertebra in human tail.[6]" Edited by SaiyanHajime, Jan 23 2014, 12:05 AM.
