I thought they was just shorten the use of the word "Humanoid". But I guess I was wrong. I do re-call during the Dragonball portion and early Z they was called Humans not earthlings. I could swore. But guess I was wrong.

well, remember the manga was originally written in japanese. the words for human and humanoid

人間 - human pronounced "ningen"
ヒューマノイド - humanoid pronounced"Hyūmanoido"

both look and sound completely different in japanese.
list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.

for those that blindly follow word of god

Also got to remember that I didn't read the manga in Japanese. So I honestly thought they just shorten the word.
