In 2013, mid April, I came down with what is known as Bell's Palsy. It started for two weeks with intense stinging headaches in a very specific spot of my inner brain. During those two weeks I had issues with the pain and nothing seemed to help it. I was sort of worried but not really as the pain came and went.
At the end of the second week on a Thursday, I was at work doing my thing. When at breakfast I noticed I was having issues getting my lip to do exactly what I wanted it to do on the left side of my face. The headaches persisted. Throughout the day, the facial numbness got worse on the left side of my face to the point where I could physically not move my cheek or my eye lid. By mid day I was extremely worried, not knowing what it was, I asked my boss if I could leave to go to the minor emergency.
Upon my visit, he promptly explained what I had, and asked me to go to get a CAT scan. I did, and the doctor explained the same thing.
So here I am, sitting in an ER room not able to move the left side of my face. Other than the headache and the face thing, I was feeling alright.

When I smiled, I literally looked like this.

I was given medicine and the facial problem stayed for literally 2 months. The headache however went away 2 weeks later. I had to tape my eye lid shut at night, and my girlfriend tells me it was freaking weird seeing me sleep with one eye open. It went away completely on its own with the help of a little medication and time.
I now have complete control over my face, until months later. Late september the left side of my eye starts twitching uncontrollably for minutes at a time and then not at all. It fell into not happening anymore, and sometimes, and then my nose started twitching one day in October. Same side of the face.
The nose twitch happened when I sneezed, yawned, or moved my face in any manner. Felt like a string was pulling it up.

This happened up until 3 weeks ago. When I quit eating bread of any kind in preparation for my Resolution. Now my face doesn't do anything. I have been GF for 3 weeks, and nothing is wrong with my face.

Coincidence? Maybe. But the evidence is there. What do you think?

It may be best to eliminate potential food allergens, including dairy (milk, cheese, and sour cream), eggs, nuts, shellfish, wheat (gluten), corn, preservatives, and food additives (such as dyes and fillers). Food allergies can be a contributing factor in neurological imbalance.

I know for a fact that most people who claim to be allergic to gluten are just caught up in the "gluten-free" craze and diagnose themselves with that condition. Because of this, I seldom take anyone's claim to having a "gluten allergy" seriously unless they flat out say that they have Siciliac's disease which is a legitimate disease.

However, I do know that there are a small group of people who are indeed legitimately allergic to gluten. Most gluten allergies that I'm aware of are digestive ones, and in very rare cases, respiratory. Gluten is known to cause headaches too, however, I've never heard of anything like what happened to you being caused by gluten.

One way to experiment if it's actually gluten or something else giving you these symptoms is to try eating gluten-free bread to see if it has the same effect on you as regular bread.

I had half a pizza yesterday. With breadsticks. Guess what is twitching again? My eye lid.

In general, processed foods are terrible because our bodies can't digest gluten well. If we are talking literal, our ancestors did not eat grain. Their diet consisted of fruits, vegetables, and high protein foods.

It's possible your body built an intolerance to it like I did with dairy products recently. The processed milk and cheese here is probably the reason why I developed lactose intolerance where nobody in my ENTIRE family genetically has it.

In the long run, it is better for you to stick to a gluten-free diet. I've made a lot of changes to mine too.
