yea are u sure ur not just confusing brain death for a coma or some s***?

i mean it's in the name: brain death

the only explanation for reported cases of recovery from brain death would be misdiagnosis -- i.e., they weren't brain dead to begin with.

exactly like i said. our instruments are not quite sensitive enough to give a 100% diagnosis. there are cases where brain activity does not show up on any instruments, and then the person recovers.

as for proof, my google fu is failing me. the only thing coming up for anything mentioning brain death is this damn case.

here's one

diagnosis of brain death? check. recovery? check. thought provoking rant about the true purpose of brain death diagnoses? check. what if this 13 year old girl is in the same situation, and the doctors just want her organs?

here's a couple of articles i found.

list of canon sources:

the DB manga, and the Dr. Slump manga as it applies to the crossover during the rra saga.

list of non canon sources:

everything else, regardless of origin, format, or quality.

this is actually not true. there have been reported cases of recovery from apparent long term brain death, even after life support was removed. it's very rare, but it does happen. our instruments are not quite sensitive enough to say for sure whether someone is truly brain dead.

also, potential quality of life is not a reason to take someone off life support without their express consent. only the patient can make that decision, even if they are too far gone to make that decision.

that said, if the family is operating on faith alone, go ahead and pull the plug. after all, they should have faith that she'll be saved regardless of the breathing machine.
I would agree with you because you are correct for the most part, but the reason I don't agree is because this isn't a case of simple brain inactivity (which is indeed "brain death"), but this is a complete lack of blood circulation to her brain. With this, there's no way her brain could ever recover because there has been no nutrients or oxygen going to it for three weeks.

Not to get graphic, but because of the lack of circulation, her brain is essentially rotting in her skull. It's the same concept if you were to cut the circulation off from your arm. It would eventually rot and fall off.

However, I will agree that faith is has no place in a completely hopeless situation. People can have faith, but based on our understanding of how the world actually works, it's impractical to believe that faith can fix anything, regardless of how dire the situation is.
Another issue being religion based, which is pretty much the issue at hand here. I myself am not religious, and have no belief that faith in the supernatural is going to fix anything.
