Gohan says to not go SSJ at the tournament, Vegeta says that he won't need to, that he (Vegeta) will still win the tournament, in the presence of Piccolo and Android 18. The hints are pretty much there that by the Buu saga, Base Saiyans > Piccolo (and earlier than that by the Cell Games, sans Vegeta and Trunks). And now im done unless... How... dare you.

The dub is way different than the original, Gohanwas stated in Daizenshuu that he is the same as a kid in power. Vegeta never says anything about "trash" he just says he was stronger when he was a kid, that's different. Piccolo turned to stone because he was caught off guard, just like Kibito stated in the manga Agreed
