How much money has Toriyama made?

Firefox Favourite Manga Dragonball	In your guys' estimation, how much money has Toriyama made off the Dragonball franchise? I assume he gets a big, big chunk of royalties from the video games, movies and the anime, but what would that actually equate to? Is he more wealthy than say Stephen King? Also, how revered is Toriyama in Japan? I assume he is a national celebrity on some level with how Stephen King is revered here in the states. Would that be an accurate analogy? Just wondering, curious...whatever.

Firefox Favourite Manga Dragon Ball, Fullmetal Alchemist, Assassination Classroom, Deadman Wonderland	Not sure, but since he's not the soul owner of the Dragon Ball series (Toei, Toriyama, and Shueisha), I can't imagine that he would get a staggering percentage of profits. Not to mention you have all the secondary companies like FUNImation, Ocean Group, Viz media, Fox, all the companies that make Dragon Ball merchandise (who technically pay Toei, Shueisha, and on occasion, FUNImation). Even though the franchise itself could be worth several billion, Toriyama himself could only make a million a year on it or so. For example, JK Rowling was smart and never sold the rights to the Harry Potter series. The series now is worth over 50 billion dollars, and most of that money goes to her.
	The vengeance is her's for as long as she stands by Him.

So he's pretty wealthy! And he most certainly does make money from the games and other media!

And he most certainly does make money from the games and other media! 45 million is quite a bit of money but not a staggering amount like I was thinking when I posted this. What Ketchup said is pretty spot on though. Comparing 45 million with 50 billion puts into perspective how much money Toriyama is NOT making. Though, that is still a lot of money and Toriyama is obviously very wealthy. I think the main thing is that Toriyama isn't the sole owner of the DB franchise leading towards less percentages of the royalties... What about his notoriety though in Japan? How great is that? Is it comparable to Stephen King here in the states?

That's less than I was expecting, much less. Eiichiro Oda makes $23 million a year: http://www.animenewsnetwork.com.au/interest/2010-12-22/magazine/one-piece-creator-oda-made-2-billion-yen Given how long Dragon Ball has been going for plus extra popularity in the west etc. I thought he'd have made a bit more than that. Although I suppose once you start getting in to tens of millions it all starts to become rather pointless to measure doesn't it?
