Please don't double post. Use the multi-quote or edit your own post.

Vegeta didn't care about his father or his Saiyan people. He just wanted to get as strong as he possibly could so he could kill Freeza one day. This was all going down since he was a child all the way up until Namek.

Bardock is just as evil as any other Saiyan if we indeed call the Saiyans evil. I can see that being a dub line where he says his final attack is for everyone killed by Freeza and his men. That just doesn't sound right coming from him since there's a Japanese version of this. I will say, that anything, Bardock was avenging his race and his pissedoffness and that's about it.

I see these things in fandoms all the time. The Draco In Leather Pants thing. True, he at least redeemed himself a bit by trying to take on Frieza, but that doesn't make him any better than Nappa and the others.

Bardock was not a good guy. He was not a hero. All indications of this were brought on by the FUNimation dub.

In the Japanese version he was just as "evil" as the rest of the Saiyan people. Unlike the English version, when he heard about Kakarot, he didn't care; when he saw Kakarot, he didn't care about him. He didn't rebel against Freeza because he realized he was an evil bastard that took pleasure in slaughtering thousands of people and decided that wasn't right - he rebelled because he didn't want Freeza wiping out his people, so he could continue being an evil bastard that took pleasure in slaughtering thousands of others.

Did he have the potential to become a good guy? If Vegeta could do it, yes. Was he on his way in the movie? Not really.

The saiyans didn't actually do much iirc between their incorporation into Frieza's force and the Saiyan-Tuffle War. Frieza was the one who sent them to attack planets and claim them for him.

Bardock was potentially a good fella.
Yes, a good fella who slaughtered billions without remorse and found killing fun <_<

Vegeta killed probably twice as more , whats your point ?

It took Vegeta 10 years of peace to be called a hero

Can we all just agree that Bardock isn't a morally good person? Despite what he tried to do with Frieza, he still slaughtered billions of people and that puts him on par with Nappa and Vegeta.

This whitewashing can be pretty annoying, especially when fandoms demonize characters who did far less damage than what Bardock and/or Vegeta did.

The Episode of Bardock showed that Bardock wasn't all bad, but that movie is a load of crap sooooooooooooo Bardock is still an a** hole. Bardock wouldn't grow to like someone just cuz the kid gave him a bit of food <_< .

For what it's worth I haven't been able to find even a transcript of the Japanese Bardock movie, so if anyone has this movie in the original dubs it would be great.

I rechecked my manga, the Viz translation and Vegeta does talk about his father, but not in the same way. He just says that "He killed our entire race, including my father, the king". That's not really all that loving
