Black history month is in celebration of their freedom and equality. For years, blacks were treated as less than human. They were kept in slavery, and even after they were freed they were treated like dirt only until recently. I don't think you realize that only recently have blacks begun to get more freedom and equality. This is a recent thing. So no, whites do not deserve a "white history month" because they never fought for equality or suffered. There is no lesson to be taught there, and it would actually be a really offensive thing to do. "White history" is taught in every classroom, but the history of African Americans is not. It's actually really simple. I could go on for longer, but I try to keep my posts short and to the point in these types of threads.

No, I fully understand (as much, if not more, than anyone) the struggles black people have faced throughout history.

Hahaha, come on, that's not true.

There have been many groups of white people, and other races, who have been through slavery/harsh treatment; like the Italians or the Jews/Hebrew people. You've also got examples like the "Redlegs" of the Carribean. Heck even in America groups of various white people like Catholics, Jews, and French/Italian/Irish/Immigrants in general. Why are the black people who suffered the only one's who deserve recognition? No History Month for Italians? Or Irish? Or French? or Russian? Because they have "white privilege" already? Alright, I'll roll with that. But where's Asian History Month? Hispanic History Month?

As for the classroom, I can't speak for every school, but I learned a lot about African/Jamaican/General Black history and culture in school. But I do agree that more cultures should have their histories taught.

Sorry, I've driven way off topic :/

Thanks! I couldn't quite remember, that's why I only said it at the end of that paragraph. :p

Take a look at the context of everything and maybe you'll understand it a bit more.

not sure how I feel about having having X, Y, and Z history month. i'm not actually a fan of all that crap

it just further distinguishes the differences between cultures. there'd be less s*** if we focused on similarities instead

It takes a mere second for treasure to turn to trash.

Hypocrisy, I don't think can be measured. I mean, you can't have hypocrisy to the nth degree, or twelve hypocrisies. As for hypocrisy in general though, there is not a single human being alive that is not a hypocrite in some way. It is impossible to not be a hypocrite in some way, everyone is a hypocrite. Ergo, argument irrelevant.

Then perhaps the parameters of the question can be changed to:

Do the Pro-Rights groups attempt to hold the moral high ground when they, in fact, do not?
A Shadow is merely Darkness in the presence of Light

Either way, "Hispanic" is rather non-specific anyway because there's so many different types of Hispanic people.

'Black' and 'African-American' are also pretty non-specific too.

I agree Mitas. You can have African-Americans who are white, particularly from South Africa which was settled by Europeans centuries ago.
