Personal Canon

I can't believe that a topic... started by KP... with the title "Personal Canon"... hasn't had a male genitalia joke yet.

OT: People have different opinions. People have different exposure/experience with the series. People have different interpretations of events. This all leads to each person having their own personal "Dragon Ball" anyway.

At one end of the spectrum; some people accept anything official that does not contradict their interpretation of the manga as their canon (Some people believe they do this but in fact bend their interpretations to match the supporting materials... but that's another topic).

At the other end; some people recognize only the manga as canon.

I really don't think it matters... as long as you're clear on where you sit, you can have a decent discussion with people.

So make your stance known that you are taking the anime into consideration so people can flat out disagree with you from the get go?

What I'm trying to say is that by using only the source material you create an objective standard of evidence that everyone must abide by. It is the same for everyone therefore it means they must use the same evidence as everyone else not whatever fits their interpretation. This allows us to get closer to the ultimate goal; creating a power chain that is both logical and consistent all the way through the entire series.

Less outright disagreement... more the ability to know what you can and cannot discuss.

In an ideal world, this would be preferred. But, sadly, as soon as someone stamps "official" or "author approved"... people start getting confused/influenced... without realizing the process by which supporting material is created.

...and then there's "authors intent" and all that entails...

The resident GT fan!

Well canon is the one that pretty much created everything else and was first introduced, now if the maker of the series decide to name some other adaptations of it"canon"then that's about that
