Seriously, one of the best in Dragon Ball, even anime in general! Good startup to show strengths, good twists and show of skills, and humor as well! They were both so even, you truly had no clue who the winner would be! Then Tien brings out a strange technique, which Goku mocks! There was even character development! Must i mention how long the fight is?? Yet it keeps you on your toes! There was never a point, after the real fighters strengths were shown, where you thought "That guy is just done for!" And it is for these reasons Goku vs. Tien is one of my favorite fights ever! Does anyone agree?? |

I love it for the ending. I've only seen it in the anime, but it really gives you that sense that Goku TRULY won but Tien got the hardware. Heck, I'm pretty sure he even says something like "Nah, you really won" but that may just be dub. Either way, Tien is forever a world martial arts champion. Goku vs Piccolo Jr is probably my favorite fight in the series. While Tien vs Goku has the first feeling of "threat" in the entire series, because Tien does seem so evil, Goku vs Piccolo Jr is such a taste of what is to come in DBZ while keeping the simplicity of earlier DB fights. There are no extended power ups, it's a highly technical fight while still being high-fantasy. Plus, the punishment Goku takes is indicative of him "surpassing" his limits, not just power level wise but endurance wise also. |

I generally found the fights in Dragonball to be better than the ones in Z and the Goku vs Tien at the 22nd (I actually found the 22nd a high level of very good fights (Goku vs Tien, Goku vs Krillin, Tien vs Yamcha, Krillin vs Chiatzu and Tien vs Jackie Chun specifically) is one of my all time favourite fights ever...I'm not actually sure its that underrated either. |

Goku vs Tien 22nd Budokai was my favorite too. The character development of Tien , fighting for the champion title instead of destroying a villain were great. |

This. And also, a plethora of amazing techniques are introduced, not only in the fight, but also the tournament. The whole saga is one of my favorites of any DB series. |

Dragon ball had some really good fight scenes. Unfortunately a lot of people don't know about them because dbz is the most popular |

I don't want to offend any DB fans but I can't enjoy those fights, they just seem boring to me compared to Z. Maybe it's because I'm not into the Kung Fu techniques or the weakness of the fighters compared to Z. |

How does one prefer straight combat to strategy and technique? I don't think I'll ever get that. Goku vs Cell was one of the better fights in Z because it had technique behind it.

Some people just like to watch sh#t blow up so they could get the feel of actual power. SSJ Goku vs 100% Frieza is one of my favorite fights since I didn't see two fighters fighting in the middle of nowhere, I saw two GODS duking it out on a dying planet. Things don't get much more epic than that. But that being said, I prefer DB/Early Z fights 9/10 times since they aren't complete power plays. While pure power fights are cool and flashy, they get old and monotonous almost immediately while a fight that has strategy, techniques, and a controlled amount of power manages to stay fresh since it kinda keeps you guessing what they might do next. And I like it when I actually figure out the weaknesses of some attacks since I feel like I'm actually in the fight itself, giving you a feel of an actual fight. @Benny DB in general is underrated. |

Glad to see other people dig it as well, it actually is my favorite fight in the entire series. Definitely the best choreographed in the anime, and it always makes me sad when I get to it because that's when DB really started to change in terms of the tone and pacing. One thing I always wondered, is that four arm ability unique to Tenshinhan/Tien? It would seem to me that firing off simultaneous ki blasts with each set of arms would be incredibly useful right up until the end of the series, I don't know why no one ever gave it a shot. |

The DB fights may be technical and creative but they're childish and ultimately weak. DBZ had many technical fights too, the difference is that they were awesomely powerful with incredible animation. They were extremely explosive and just seem GODLY in comparison to the old school DB Kung Fu fights. They were great for their time but if you really want to compare them to Z they're just so silly. Goku vs Vegeta 1 is my favorite fight in the whole series. Their fight pre-oozarus was the best, very technical and once Goku went Kaioken? I still have yet to see a cooler looking animation fight with the peak being when Goku was beating up Vegeta in KKx1 and 2. Piccolo vs 17 and Goku vs Cell are also God-tier. |

LOL! Sorry but after not watching DBZ for a while, then watching a fight, Super Vegeta vs. Cell, i thought the exact opposite! it was at that point that I watched the Goku vs. Tien one, and it was much more serious! |

^The opposite of what? I mentioned many reasons for why I think the Z fights are superior. |

I thoroughly enjoyed the Dragonball fights just as much and sometimes even more than the Dragonball Z fights. It was more about martial arts skills and retaining your Ki instead of basically in DBZ Ki blast massacres in a lot of cases. |
