Yes. He was trained by master roshi, kami and popo, and king kai. I'm pretty sure he knows what he's doing

Of course he uses Ki.
In the show Ki is energy that everyone has and uses. The Z fighters just have it more than the average person.
Even a simple punch requires Ki.

Not every punch requires Ki, but you can amplify your punches with Ki.

Yes, he mastered it long ago. Prolly 23rd TB, possibly even the 22nd TB.

You're asking if he ever mastered Ki usage when in your opening post you give an example of him mastering Ki.

On top of this, the Spirit Ball is probably one of the most complex ki techniques in the entire series.

This. The Spirit Ball is ki usage mastered to the point where he can control it's movements. And quickly at that. Most examples of ki manipulation I can recall are just one change of direction. Yamcha can move his Spirit Ball in multiple directions at great speed.

He used the Kamehameha as early as the 22nd Budokai. And he does have a flight aura in the Android saga.

As an aside to this thread; how effective would the Spirit Ball be in the hands of someone like Goku or Gohan for instance?
