Kid Buu would easily take Gohan the boost isn't nearly enough to achieve anything in my eyes.

Or you could argue that Gohan's potential was still in its infancy stages of recuperation after Elder Kaioshin's ritual.

It's obvious Gohan has the greater potential. The scene where Vegeta actually hit Beerus was just Beerus humoring Vegeta. Gohan's pitiful performance is the result of the fact that Gohan's just a SSJ with black hair. The in-universe explanation I give for that pitiful performance was the result of Gohan still being drunk.

Beerus (more power) > SSj2 Vegeta (roidrage) > Beerus (against Vegeta) > SSj2 Vegeta Gohan and Gotenks would fit in between the middle two.

Gohan got numerous potential unlocks for a reason, and SSJ 2 was made out to seem like the release of his dormant power.
