I'm debating with my friend over which series is better, and we can't come up with a decision. We both enjoy both series of games, so I was wondering which series is most preferred here. I've come up with some pros and cons for each series: Budokai 1,2,3 Pros: Side scrolling gives a more classic fighting style feel to it. The cutscene moves are entertaining, as well as the unique "Dragon Rush" feature. The graphics in the 3rd budokai are phenomenal, and Budokai 2 held the coolest and most fun fusions. Also in budokai, you can tag finishers onto the end of combos very smoothly. The combos were wonderful, the gameplay was very simple and easy to pick up and is fun for hours at a time. Cons: There's just some things I felt this series lacked. It's hard to put my finger on it, it may be that the graphics (yes, I did say that they were phenomenal) however great they were, at times felt.. not very good. For example, the characters look great until their closeups during an ultimate attack or at the end of a battle when the camera is close to them. I understand that Dragonball Z is an anime/cartoon and it's supposed to feel a little like the manga with the scratch-shading and all that, but for some reason when I see it it doesn't feel very manga-like to me. Budokai Tenkaichi 1,2,3 Pros: This series hit its prime on Budokai Tenkaichi 2. This is the game that I am currently playing right now from my collection, and it's amazing. The story is full and rich like the manga and show, and it's very extensive. The soundtrack is well done, and the graphics are fairly decent. Budokai Tenkaichi 3 is also wonderful, giving us a lot of what the 2nd did, just with a much bigger roster. The gameplay is fun and exciting and intense, and it leaves you very satisfied. This over the shoulder style really plunges you into the game, and makes you feel as if it's really the story from the show, or that you're really there, which is one of the best things about these games. Cons: Budokai Tenkaichi 1 was nothing to really speak of. I picked it up around the time I wanted to expand from Budokai, and I was unimpressed. I wanted to play it and experience the new styled fighting, but the graphics and the way it looked and sounded really hindered that for me. Jump to Budokai Tenkaichi 2 & 3, and while these games were very superb, I found minor things that bugged me that I couldn't quite shake. After a while, the soundtrack, while good, gets very annoying. The same song is repeated in Dragon Adventure for every scenario, and the cutscenes are poorly executed. The audio cuts in and out at times during a cutscene fight. For all the good about the gameplay, I feel as if the series lacked in what they chose to do with the in-between stuff. That's really all I can think of to say, what do you guys think? |

Both were great series, but in my opinion, the Budokai series was probably a step above Tenkaichi when it came to elements to engage the player. The thing that bugs me is that most gamers now only really look at the graphics and functions, and don't factor in how engaging the game itself is. In the Budokai series, they slipped considerably with Budokai 2, even if they did introduce the Cel Shading there with the graphics, and the non-combo super attack launch. Budokai 3 still stands as my favorite DBZ game, even after all these years. The Free Range roaming thing in Dragon World, and the Skill Shop were two of my favorite features in that game. Budokai Tenkaichi 3 came in second on my list, but only because of the huge character rooster. The Tenkaichi series may have introduced the "3D" fighting element, but the game itself wasn't as engaging as anything in Budokai. Even Tenkaichi 2's "free range roaming" thing was less than fun because unlike Budokai 3, you could only "find" places that were already marked on the map, which made the roaming through Dragon World feature completely pointless. This wasn't the only game that did this either. Edited by Ketchup Revenge, Nov 29 2013, 04:27 AM.

Definetly budokai tenkaichi for it is very similar to raging blast, and budokai tenkaichi had a vast amount of characters, great gameplay that feels like dbz fights from the anime, story, and lots of fun modes. |
