Similarities Between Dragon Ball, Z, and GT Fights?; As you move along, several motifs seem to repeat...

 So when I note these things, what do you think of?

1- Goku fights a rival, the most powerful being he's ever known, bent on domination
2- The Goku and this rival match each other blow for blow, and when each think they have the other down, they make comebacks that stun the other
3- The rival powers up so greatly as to shake up the ground
4- There's a beam struggle
5- The rival loses the beam struggle when Goku summons his inner energy
6- The rival rebounds and grows to enormous proportions
7- The rival seems to have Goku pinched, having not lost speed and now having the ability to crush Goku
8- The rival shrinks once more
9- Others try to help Goku, who is gravely injured
10- The rival is also gravely injured, but has enough energy to perform amazing energy attacks, even after the beating he sustained
11- After being beaten, the rival seems dead
12- Someone tries to kill the rival
13- Goku stops him and tells him that he believes the rival can be redeemed if given the chance
14- The rival escapes and vows violent, sadistic revenge
15- Later on, the rival— in no way intending to become permanent allies to the Z warriors— helps Goku and friends stop an even more powerful threat, mainly so his own interests can be protected
16- Winds up becoming close with one of Goku's friends, very close, and becomes a powerful ally

Obviously, talking about Goku vs Vegeta, right?
Well.... take a look at this
Goku vs Piccolo


In Dragon Ball, we start with Goku fighting increasingly powerful beings to stop an Emperor from getting the dragon balls. In the second major saga, we meet the Red Ribbon Army, who have constructed ultrapowerful androids to unleash hell upon their enemies. In the third major plot, we meet a demon with incredibly powers, even upsetting the gods.

Now for the similarities between the sagas

So if I asked you for a saga where we meet a regenerating physical god who can copy powers, fuses with others to get stronger, knows the abilities of the Z warriors , forces one of the heroes to undergo an extreme transformation, blows himself up, Gohan's "hidden potential" is unleashed but he goes easy on him (ultimately getting Trunks killed), releases persons they absorbed and comes back even more dangerous...

Would you give me the Buu saga or the Cell saga? Because, either way you're right.



This one's a bit looser, but you get the idea, right? Where these come into play again?

Between Z and GT, we have almost the exact same thing (equally as loose though)

Start with a planet traversing venture, fighting an ungodly powerful being who hates Saiyans where the only way Goku wins is by transforming into a very rare state. Also, while he initially mows down this being, his opponent bulks up and (in the TV series at least) seems to dominate Goku for a while.
Second saga? A deranged scientist constructs an android that needs to fuse with other android(s) to unleash its maximum potential.
Third? Ancient god (with the ability to regenerate through a pink, amorphous mass) mows down the heroes and Goku and Vegeta both stave off the god, but it's defeated only by Goku's spirit bomb.

I know there's similarities between DB and GT, but I'll leave that and others I missed to you.
