Did you like the way Vegeta was characterized in the first Broly movie?

I just rewatched it the other day, and have to say I'd forgotten all about the way Vegeta was portrayed in that movie. His accepting Broly as the LSSJ automatically and being completely defeated was really weird, considering it took him until the end of the manga to accept Goku and his constant rivalry with him. It would make more sense for Vegeta to refuse to accept it and fight him futilely, while insisting no one could surpass the prince of the Saiyans, right? I liked the idea of Broly as a villain though, but looking back this bugged me a lot.

Being a scared hopeless punk? Never liked it at all. I like the stubborn, arrogant, ignorant Vegeta.

I think that was to show how extreme Broly was. So legendary, so powerful that even the Prince of all Saiyans was shaking in his boots. It's still dumb. I didn't like it at all. Vegeta should have been in his face nonstop. I don't care how much more powerful Broly was than him. That's one character I feel Vegeta should have been fighting to the very end. I'm talking about Vegeta moments where he's half dead and still standing up for more just like he did on Earth against Kakarot.

I'm not sure whether I really LIKE it or not, but it makes sense. Vegeta grew up believing in the legend of the Super Saiyan, this near-mythical warrior who's supposed to be 100% unbeatable. By the time of the side-story that is Movie 8, Vegeta's already become a Super Saiyan himself only to get his butt kicked at least once (Vs Eighteen), maybe twice (Vs Perfect Cell), and have that belief of "Super Saiyan = invincible" shattered.

But then here comes Broly, this harder, better, faster, stronger Super Saiyan who, for all intents and purposes, seems to actually be THE singular unbeatable "Legendary Super Saiyan" straight out of the old Saiyan stories told while roasting Tsufrians over a campfire. Despite his normal confident-to-the-point-of-arrogance attitude, Vegeta is the only one who ever firmly believed in this legend so deeply. So it's completely understandable that he'd thus be the only one freaking out and giving up hope so quickly, while the movie's other heroes charge in and fight Broly anyway because they don't have that mindset ingrained within them.

Well, it showed the mass powe gap between vegeta and broly

He finally saw the legend of Broly, and after hitting him with a big bang attack, it did nothing.

That made Vegeta helpess that even in ssj1, he can't do anything, for he thinks that everyone is going to die.

Vegeta breaking into tears and being owned by Frieza would like to disagree as would Vegeta saying that Frieza is completely beyond him.

On topic, I liked it, but I hate Vegeta so I'm not a good source for that

What ProGo said.

All of that was most likely to build up Broly as a villian. It's pure plot really.

This/
Even if Vegeta was afraid of him he would still fought and fall under Broly, but I would like to see him at least fighting and getting he's butt kicked rather than afrai of even get close to him
So wthing like Vegeta vs Perfect Cell, even though he knew he was outclassed he fought and loser he did t afraid at all
