Let's pretend that Goku didn't replace Gohan who was supposed to replace him as the new main hero. Would you have liked that? Do you think he would've made a good hero?

Yes, if AT didn't change his character for the worst and made him grow up to become a proper hero. The "Gohan was unsuitable as the hero" thing was only because AT made him unsuitable even though he had a chance to change Gohan after the 7 year break.

I would have. It would've been fresh to see someone else be the hero for once instead of Goku. Plus it should've been Gohan all along. It was what he was being built for the entire series.

I would have preferred it to be quite honest. After witnessing the chilling scene of Gohan turning SSJ 2 at the budokai, we learn that he has been surpassed by Vegeta who was actually weaker than Kid Gohan. It feels like they almost threw Gohan under a bus, and made him absolutely useless for some reason. In the Cell Games it was made out to seem like he had the power, and his potential was unrivaled. Well, all of a sudden big daddy Goku came back and showed his dominance. I wasn't too pleased.

I'm torn. Honestly, I feel like Goku is the one and true hero of Dragonball, but the way Gohan was treated didn't go down well for me. It totally humiliated him as a character and rendered him null. I'll change up a bit:

If you go by manga: Goku is the real hero, because it started that way.
If you go by DBZ only: No, Goku didn't deserve it.

And, as always I choose manga over anime.

I just want to say one thing about that, though. Everyone says Gohan didn't want to be a hero and hated conflict, which I would say is true of him up until the series resumes after the Cell Games. But let's stop and think about it: Gohan puts on a costume, calls himself the Great Saiyaman and creates a secret identity. By the time he took over (however briefly) as the main character, he didn't just want to be a hero, he wanted to be a SUPER HERO. If anything I'd say the people who don't want Gohan should criticize AT for that arc and be mad he waffled on Gohan not wanting to fight/be a hero at the climax of the Cell Saga. The Great Saiyaman doesn't want to be a hero? Really?

Also, I would have preferred Gohan staid the main character, and the series ended with a longer Great Saiyaman saga. Personally, I would just as soon have not seen Buu come around, I thought Cell was the perfect final villain (if it wasn't going to be Freeza). I really liked the humor and more character oriented stories up until the end of the Tenkaichi Budokai, and really wouldn't have been bothered if there were no more high powered villains after that. Vegeta is my favorite character, but he wasn't cut out to be the final hero, and Goku would have been better off staying dead IMHO. Plus, we had nearly TWENTY VOLUMES of build up in the manga (and countless episodes) setting up Gohan as the most powerful and logical successor, throwing that out the window is my one real gripe with the entire series.

If Gohan turned out like F Gohan or Dante from DMC yes.

AT sabotaged Gohan once the cell fight was done.

Don't think Gohan should be the main hero but I would've like to see Gohan vs Majin Piccolo.
Super Buu: So, hotshot! You want to fight Majin Buu?
Gohan: Fight you? No. I wanna kill you!

I would have loved for him to be the new main hero; I actually wanted him to be the new hero, but then I grew up. No seriously, I grew up, read the manga, and saw how he wasn't suited for the role. Yes, Toriyama if he really wanted to could've have Gohan, but welcome to the real world people, Gohan didn't want it. Just because he didn't want to be the main hero, he's not mature?

Ben, there's a difference between wanting to help, and being the MAIN hero. Gohan wasn't an @$$hole either, if he saw someone was in need of help, he wasn't going to leave them. That does not mean he loves the fight, that he loves the challenge, etc.

There is no indication in the Buu saga that Gohan didn't want to fight. He wasn't like he was in the Cell games.

He was simply outsmarted by Buu which felt like a rushed, last minute decision to make the Golden Boy Goku the main hero yet again. He was built perfectly to fight Buu the whole saga and was very willing to do it. Again, he was outsmarted which it didn't need to be like that at all.

Gokuu is what gives a part of DB's essence , in my opinion.
Gohan wouldn't suit the role. Why cancel out the character that was the main hero from the very beginning at the last second?
Gokuu from beginning to end. If that changes, it'll be ruined IMO.

The fact that he doesn't do anything for 7 years is a clear indication that he wasn't interested in fighting. And even if you don't want to use that fact, there really didn't have to be an indication in the Buu saga because it was already established before that his interest in fighting are very minimal. That being said, if his attitude towards fighting changed in the Buu saga, that would've sucked because we would need an explanation of why he suddenly changed. It didn't need to be a paragraph of an explanation, it could've been something brief, easy and simple.
