Top Favorite Manga?

I've seen a lot of anime lists, but no one really talks about their favorite manga over here. My list is never set in stone, but this is it currently:

1. The Flowers of Evil: Pure art. If a perfect manga exists in this world, this is it - at least in my opinion. This manga encompasses every dark emotion I have ever felt, and I find it to be extremely easy to relate to. The author has talent. He makes you both despise and love each character in unique ways. A character that I may hate in one chapter, I will undoubtedly love later on. The Flowers of Evil is my manga for life.

Spoiler: click to toggle

2. No Longer Human: Dark, depressing, and so true. I could read this over and over again, it's so deep.

Spoiler: click to toggle

3. Bakuman: Bakuman is Bakuman. It's funny, sad, cute, light-hearted, well-written, and incredibly engaging. This is the perfect non-action shonen.

Spoiler: click to toggle

4. Girl Friends: Definitely not for everyone, but I love this manga. Like The Flowers of Evil, it's very close to my heart due to its content and how easy I can relate to it. In a lot of ways, this is my life in the form of a manga. I hate shoujo manga in general, but this is a true gem. It starts off a little iffy, but it's a marvelous story and romance (even if it is between two girls).

Spoiler: click to toggle

5. Parasyte: A perfect seinen manga with a nice mix of humor and horror. I was hooked the whole way through.

Spoiler: click to toggle

6. Attack on Titan: I love Attack on Titan, and it's definitely working its way up there. Each new chapter excites me.

I have read up some mangas but DragonBall Z will always be my favorite so my list goes like that:
1-DragonBall
2-One Piece
3-Naruto
-Yugioh
That's the only mangas I have read a bit :p

It makes me sad that no one really reads anything outside of mainstream manga on this forum. :'(

I wish I could sit down and read Naruto, Bleach, and One Piece in their entirety, but that would take too much time and money. I'm collecting the volumes very slowly. :p

2) DBZ
3) Gash Bell!!

Yo

I liked Parasyte, I remember making a topic on it a couple years ago and no one responded.
What I read of Attack on Titan was good, I lost track of it though.
I couldn't get into Bakuman, even though Death Note was/is a favourite of mine, and the first manga that I ever managed to get a full collection of.

Haven't heard of any of the others, will keep an eye out for them.

These are just a few I like. I have a very bad memory and tend to only really rate what I've recently read, atm I'm going through a comics phase but these were all really good and have been in the last couple of months or so.

1. I am a Hero

Dance

It's about Zombies.
It's good.
Not licensed in English yet which is a major shame.

2. Uzumaki

Grim, don't open if you don't like spirals

It's by Junji Ito so if you've read any of his other stuff you'll have a feel for it.
A town is cursed by spirals and thingamjigs happen.
It's pretty scary.
(especially snail people).

3. Afterschool War Activities

Cover

This is a Manhwa about a bunch of high school kids being drafted in to deal with an Alien invasion.
A lot better than what you'd imagine.
Apparently has parallels with the Korean War.

Not licensed.

Nice post, Light. I would have definitely responded to that thread if I had seen it. ^_^

I've read Uzumaki and own it. It is excellent for a horror manga. I'm going to be picking up her other short story, Gyo, very soon. I've heard of I Am A Hero but haven't read it. I'll have to check those out!

I love Death Note as well (just wasn't sure where exactly to place it on my list), but I preferred Bakuman. I love stories about friendship. Usually I like depressing stuff, so Bakuman is really the only uplifting manga that I've been able to get into. I felt like it deserved a pretty high spot on the list for that reason. It's perfect for what it is in my opinion.

@Brofist: I love seinen as well. I need to check out the manga for Elfen Lied since I enjoyed the anime, but the art style has been putting me off.

The one on the left is from the very first volume.

The one on the right is later on in the manga.

Let that be your motivation.

I read quite a few manga but I can't think of any that aren't mainstream in some shape or form. I'll try a few on this thread and see what happens. Actually wait I am hero is non main stream I think. Wolf got me on that one too.

Is there supposed to be improvement or is this a trick? :w00t:

I'm really not an art nazi, so I'll probably check it out. Good art does add to the overall enjoyment factor, though, at least in my opinion.

Elfen Lied
enjoyed the anime
no

Eh haven't read nearly as many manga as I've seen anime (is that grammatically correct? Stared for like a minute, can't tell).

Fullmetal Alchemist
Solanin
Berserk (been going to s*** though)
Slam Dunk
Uhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh Hunter x Hunter if I give a pass for the horrendous art

No particular order btw, although the top 3 are better than the bottom 2.

I did enjoy it, but I wouldn't consider it amazing or anything like that. Is the manga really that awful? :p

I loved Solanin! Although it was a little slow for me.
